The current, second-generation model is present since 2014 and latest reports suggest that the next version will come probably in two years. This indicates that the 2020 Volvo XC90 will most likely be the last year model of the current generation. That means we should not expect bigger changes on it. It should continue with familiar design characteristics, which means completely unchanged styling and mechanics. Expect to see the same trim level organization as well, though each version could get some additional standard feature. The 2020 XC90 should arrive sometime late in the next year.

The interior of 2020 Volvo XC90 should continue in the same way. This crossover offers a lot of luxury, but also seems very practical. The first thing you’ll notice is plenty of legroom. This model comes with two rows of seating, while the third row is available in higher trims. In both cases, you can count on plenty of comfort. The quality of materials in on amazing level. Also, the list of standard features is pretty long, even the base models.

Base trim level organization should remain unchanged. The 2020 Volvo XC90 will continue with four trim levels in the offer. The base one is known as Momentum. It comes with standard features like 18-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, keyless entry, parking sensors and much more. On the inside, there are 9-inch touchscreen, navigation, smartphone integration, voice controls, USB, Bluetooth, 10-speaker audio system and much more.

The next one is R-Design, which comes with several styling upgrades, including new grille design, bigger wheels etc. On the inside, you get plenty of sporty details as well. Some of the highlights are paddle shifters, sports seats, aluminum trim, ambient lighting etc.

The Inscription seems quite familiar. It features almost identical list of standard equipment but comes with unique wheels, upgraded leather upholstery etc.

Finally, there is the Excellence trim, which is all about comfort. Instead of a rear bench, you get captain’s chairs, adaptive air suspension, extended leather upholstery, premium 19-speaker audio system and much more.

Safety has always been Volvo’s area of expertize, so you can count on a bunch of advanced systems. Even base models come with things like rearview camera, lane departure warning, lane keeps assist, road sign detection, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. The company’s famous Volvo’s City Safety package is also standard across the range. This suite includes things like forwarding collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection.

Also, there are several optional systems, like a 360-degree camera, active parking assist, automatic headlights etc.

The 2020 Volvo XC90 will continue with the same powertrain lineup. There are three variants in the offer. Base models feature a familiar 2.0-liter turbo inline-four, which has a max output of 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The same engine is available with the addition of a supercharger. Such combination provides extra power, so a max output goes around 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is a hybrid powertrain, known as T8. This model features a gasoline engine with turbocharger and supercharger, but also adds a hi-output 87-hp electric motor, which also brings plenty of torque. So, a max output goes up to  400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. All versions use the same 8-speed automatic transmission.

We don’t expect any earlier arrival than usual, considering the fact that there aren’t many changes to come. The price should also remain largely the same. The current model goes in a wide range between 47.000 and 105.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Range Rover Sport etc.
