The German company is refreshing the lineup of the 2020 VW Touareg with two new trim levels. These are available upgrades for the premiere of the mid-size SUV. After that, we can hear that Volkswagen is preparing further updates. One of them is the arrival of the hybrid model. However, we don’t have the release date for this drivetrain. But, we know this is the last run for the diesel V8 engine, which is available in non-US markets. In North America, we find this vehicle as VW Atlas.

The 2020 VW Touareg will be the largest SUV in the Volkswagen’s lineup. It is a seven-seat model with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. However, the company also offers the compact Tiguan with three rows of seats. The company celebrates one million sold Touareg SUVs. The special trim level is on the way and the same 3.6-l V6 engine will be under the hood of the entire lineup.
2020 VW Touareg Specs
The 2020 VW Touareg is going to offer both diesel and petrol engines. The base drivetrain is going to be a proven 3.6-l gasoline unit with the capability to produce 275 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The max speed of this model is 142 mph and the power router is an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The company offers the SUV with two-wheel drive, while the 4Motion all-wheel drive is optional. It is one of the highlights and reasons why you should buy the Touareg.
Another possibility is a 3.0-liter engine. This is the drivetrain for the Chinese market. The powertrain is producing 290 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque thanks to turbochargers. The largest petrol unit is a 4.2-liter displacement. With 355 horsepower it is also the most powerful one. A V8 adds 320 lb-ft of torque as well.

Diesel Engines
VW and diesel powertrains are not a popular combination in the USA nowadays. However, outside the States, these engines are more popular than petrol units. Emission restrictions are not so strict, so Volkswagen is selling more diesel powertrains across the ocean.
There are two engines available for the 2020 VW Touareg. The smaller one is a 3.0-liter BlueMotion V6. Depending on a market, the drivetrain is capable to deliver 200, 235, or 242 horsepower and 332/405 lb-ft of twisting power. A six-speed automatic or manual transmission is forwarding power to two wheels, or the 4Motion system.
The other diesel drivetrain is a 4.2-l V8. Turbocharged, it sprints to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 150 mph. The company announced that this engine entered its last year and the final run will bring 335 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Of course, the interior also gets unique details, such as diamond stitching on seats, shift knob, steering wheel.
More Features
The 2020 VW Touareg will offer more options and accessories. The company already unveiled three optional packages to boost the impression. Like the Launch Edition, available for the current model, there will be the Innovision Package with a huge 12-inch gauge screen. At the center of the dashboard is an even larger 15-inch touchscreen display. Furthermore, the VW adds customizable interior lighting (30 colors), steel scuff plates, and Media Control system.

We can also find Sound and Comfort Package. Here, the Touareg is getting Memory Pack for seats and mirrors. Climate control in four zones, heated rear seats, and a 360-degree camera are other notable upgrades of this suite. The R-Line is top-notch offer. The most impressive package is making the SUV sportier and more elegant. Upgrades for the 2020 VW Touareg R-Line are 20-inch Nevada wheels, sway bars, 4Motion AWD, and leather upholstery.
VW Atlas
When the company discontinued the Touareg in the US, they replaced the SUV with an all-new Volkswagen Atlas. It is still a fresh model that comes with either a turbo-four or a 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine. It is not as premium SUV as the Touareg and its price starts at $30,000. However, with upgrades (V6 and Premium SEL trim) the cost jumps to $50,000. R-Line model is also available for the VW Atlas.
