2021 Acura MDX Redesign, Release date, Interior, Rumors

Mid-size crossovers are among the hottest segments among luxury carmakers, so more frequent changes seem like a must. Therefore, the completely redesigned 2021 Acura MDX seems like a certain thing. Not only that the crowded marker demands frequent changes, but Honda will also meet its perfectly balanced 7-year production cycle. The next year is about to bring a lot of novelties and we count on improvements in many aspects. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is styling, but the new MDX will improve in many other ways as well, including a more luxurious cabin and a smoother ride.

Novelties are expected under the hood as well. At this point, we still don’t know the details, but it seems quite possible to see some smaller and more efficient powertrain in the offer. All in all, the 2021 Acura MDX will bring a lot of interesting novelties and we expect to see it sometime in the second half of the next year.

2021 Acura MDX Redesign

There is no doubt that the upcoming redesign will bring a lot of novelties. The 2021 Acura MDX should improve in many ways, considering that the current model has a couple of notable drawbacks. The first one is the ride quality. The current model can be a little bit firm sometimes, while sound insulation could be better as well.

Also, we hope that the Japanese manufacturer will solve a couple of issues in terms of mechanics and electronics, which cause untypically low-reliability ratings for this carmaker. In terms of base design characteristics, we have no doubt that the new 2021 Acura MDX will once again share a lot of parts with the next-gen Honda Pilot and Ridgeline. This includes almost complete mechanics, including shared powertrain and transmission.

Exterior

Of course, the most notable changes of every redesign are those in terms of the exterior design. Naturally, we expect to see a completely new styling. Of course, it will be based on the brand’s latest design language, so you may expect a lot of similarities with the smaller RDX. A diamond-shaped grille will definitely find its place, as well as also those sharp lines that characterize new Acura models.

Of course, we also expect to see a couple of distinctive details, considering that this will be the flagship model in the lineup. In terms of size and proportions, we have no doubt that the new RDX will carry on with a familiar SUV body style. The current model measures 111 inches in wheelbase and we expect a couple of more in the new one, which would be highly beneficial in terms of interior space, especially in the third row.

Interior

This is the aspect where we expect to see a lot of improvements. The current model has often been criticized for a not-so-premium interior look. The overall quality is good and most surfaces feature soft-touch materials. However, there are also some areas with lower-rent materials, which isn’t a common thing among premium crossover. Therefore, we expect that the new 2021 Acura MDX will improve interior quality. latest reports are suggesting a new dashboard as well, highlighted with a tablet-like touchscreen loads of other advanced tech features.

As we already mentioned, the new model should gain a couple of inches in wheelbase. Therefore, we count a little bit more legroom. Of course, this mostly refers to the third row, which currently isn’t exactly adult-friendly. Still, that’s the thing that bothers most mid-size crossovers. Also, the cargo area could offer a little bit more volume, although the current model is already pretty decent in this aspect.

2021 Acura MDX Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, there is really nothing to complain about in the current generation. The base model comes with a 3.5-liter V6, which is good for about 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Such numbers are more than enough for a convenient ride, which the fuel economy is above average. Therefore, we presume that this engine will carry on, though with a couple of modifications that would provide a little bit more power.

When it comes to the hybrid version, we also count on a similar setup, though with a little bit more power and improved efficiency. The current model is based on a 3.0-liter V6 and comes paired with a couple of electric motors for a total output of 321 horsepower.

Finally, there is a chance for a new powertrain option. Various reports are suggesting a turbo-four variant in the offer. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation.
