2021 Audi Q1: New Entry-Level Crossover From Ingolstadt

As the biggest car company theses days, VW Group is reacting to the market pretty quickly, so it’s no wonder that lineups of all brands in the Group are in a big expansion. We’ve just recently seen new models like Audi Q4 and Q8, while the new e-tron is on the way. However, that’s not all. We are also about to see a new entry-level model, which is expected to arrive next year, as the 2021 Audi Q1. This will be the smallest and most affordable crossover in the lineup.

Although it’s still early to talk about exact details, there is no doubt that the 2021 Audi Q1 will have a lot of things in common with the A1. We are talking about both mechanics and aesthetics. Of course, this model will also come with loads of exclusive, crossover-ish details that should make it more appealing for all those who are looking for a small city car, which is also pretty luxurious. The new crossover is about to hit the market next year.

2021 Audi Q1 Redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, it’s not hard to make most of the predictions. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. We count on the same version of the MQB architecture that is used for the A1 model. Therefore, most of the mechanics should be the same, as well as some of the dimensions. This particularly refers to the wheelbase, which goes slightly under 101 inches. Obviously, the 2021 Audi Q1 will be higher, due to higher ground clearance, while we won’t be surprised if we see slightly longer overhangs as well, particularly at the rear end.

When it comes to differences compared to the small hatchback, we also count on a little bit different suspension setup, which would make this model slightly more capable.

Styling

One of the good things about Audi and most German brands is that you don’t have to be a magician to predict the looks of new models. Simply, the company from Ingolstadt is pretty conservative in this aspect and definitely won’t bring any radical change. After all, the A1 is still quite fresh on the market, so we presume that the 2021 Audi Q1 will feature nearly identical front end, with the exception of the front bumper, which could be slightly revised. As we already mentioned, this model should sit a little bit higher from the ground, while fender flares and other black plastic surfaces is something that usually comes from crossovers. The rear end could be slightly different as well. This particularly refers to the roofline, which could be more wagon-like, in order to provide more cargo space. Still, don’t expect too much from this model.

Interior

The same story goes for interior design. The 2021 Audi Q1 should feature the same dashboard as its hatchback sibling. That’s not a bad thing at all. Moreover, this would mean one of the nicest cabins among supermini crossover, which utilizes hi-quality materials and comes with loads of standard equipment. Of course, this refers particularly to hi-tech features, where Audi really shines. You may count on the company’s excellent infotainment system, amazing digital instrument cluster and more.

On the other side, the new crossover won’t be particularly spacious. After, we are talking about less than 101 inches in wheelbase. That number definitely isn’t enough to provide enough room in the second row for adults. One the other side, the front end should be comfortable and spacious enough even for longer journeys. When it comes to the cargo area, we don’t expect too much from the 2021 Audi Q1.

2021 Audi Q1 Engines

Under the hood, we expect no surprises. The 2021 Audi Q1 will rely on proven engines, which means that base models will probably come with a small 1.0-liter three-cylinder unit that puts around 115 horsepower. Of course, you may count on a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four as well, which features a max output of 150 horsepower. Finally, a 2.0-liter turbo-four should sit at the top of the offer. This engine puts out around 200 horsepower. With this engine, the new crossover should be able to hit 60 mph in less than 7 seconds.

When it comes to transmission, we definitely count on the company’s excellent DSG automatic, though some models should be available with a manual gearbox as well.

2021 Audi Q1 Release Date and Price

The company is still quiet about the launch date but some sources suggest that the 2021 Audi Q1 won’t come before the next year. In any case, this will be the most affordable crossover from Audi. Some predictions suggest a starting price between 22.000 and 25.000 dollars. More details about the launch date and price should be known soon.
