The current generation of the popular mid-size crossover has been around for some time and the latest reports are suggesting that there is still a couple of more years before the redesign. This clearly indicates that the 2021 Honda Pilot is about to come without more important changes, especially if we consider the last-year update, which has brought both exterior and interior changes.
The upcoming 2020 model also comes with nice updated, as there is a new Black Edition trim. All in all, it’s not hard to conclude that the 2021 Honda Pilot should be a typical carryover model. It will continue with the same overall design, though minor updated in terms of standard features and similar things are possible. Still, that definitely won’t affect the launch date, which is expected to be scheduled for the last quarter of the next year.
2021 Honda Pilot Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, we definitely won’t see any notable change in the 2021 Honda Pilot. The mid-size crossover has been refreshed last year. For that occasion, we saw a nice amount of styling changes. All of them were pretty subtle, but the new model somehow looks fresher. You can notice new headlights, bumper and some grille revisions. On the other end, you can see revised taillights and a couple of more tweaks.
On the other side, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle hasn’t been touched since the redesign, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The Pilot may not be the most athletic model in the class, but it features an incredibly smooth ride, which promises excellent comfort on long journeys.
It’s not hard to conclude that this aspect of the vehicle will remain pretty much untouched. The current generation has a couple of more years before the redesign, so there’s no big reason for more important updates at the moment.
Interior
The interior has always been a strong point of this crossover. Just like the exterior design, the interior has also come with updates last year. There is a new instrument cluster as well as a couple of more new details on the dashboard. This made the Pilot more attractive on the inside, though we have to say that there are many rivals that look better in this aspect. However, just a small number of them are more functional than the Pilot. Despite it doesn’t feature the longest wheelbase in the class, this crossover is very generous in terms of the interior space.
The first couple of rows are very generous, while the third row also offers adult-friendly dimensions. The cargo area is decent as well. You can count on about 16.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats, while the overall capacity goes up to 84 cubes.
Features
A couple of updates in terms of standard equipment are possible, but we don’t expect anything significant to happen. Therefore, the list of standard features should remain similar, especially in terms of tech goodies. The current model isn’t very generous in base trims and, unfortunately, that probably won’t change. You may count on things like 5-inch display, Bluetooth, two USB ports, and a seven-speaker audio system. Fortunately, things are much better at higher trim levels, where you can get an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, a 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging and more.
When it comes to safety, things are much better as all models come standard with a rearview camera, automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, you can get blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors.
2021 Honda Pilot Engine
Many reports were suggesting a hybrid version of this crossover but that won’t happen, at least not in the current generation. The 2021 Honda Pilot will carry on with just one engine in the offer. It is a well-known 3.5-liter V6, which in this case delivers around 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, while a 9-speed gearbox is available in higher trim levels.
This transmission has been revised and now provides a smoother and more efficient ride. Speaking of fuel efficiency, mpg ratings are pretty typical for the class. This crossover returns around 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
2021 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price
Given that the 2021 Honda Pilot probably won’t feature any notable change, we may presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the end of next year. Changes in prices aren’t expected either. Base models should go around 31.500 dollars, while most expensive versions can go all-away up to 50.000.
