2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Release Date, Spy Shots

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a flagship model and some serious changes are on the way for the next edition. Well, it is about time for the SUV’s redesign. Now, the company is removing Durango from the competitors’ list, so that will leave more space for the all-new Grand Cherokee. No, the FCA is not discontinuing Dodge Durango. It will become the body-on-frame SUV with different driving habits and purpose. Still, the Grand Cherokee will get a new sibling, since the automaker will start building Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs.

Exterior and interior changes will refresh the flagship model. Well, these updates are not too big, since the SUV still looks mean. Speaking of that, the drivetrain lineup is one of the advantages of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Starting with the V6, it offers something for everyone. There are also larger V8 drivetrains, diesel power, and of course, the performance-oriented Trackhawk edition with Hellcat engine. In the future, this drivetrain could be tuned to produce more than 707 horsepower.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Changes

FCA set the priority to a comeback of the Wagoneer. However, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee will take advantage of this move by borrowing some design solutions from its bigger sibling. Well, Wagoneer is still appearing in the form of a pickup truck, and the company is not unveiling too many details. However, the modernization will include a new grille. A seven-slot radiator design is still there, but bars could be bolder and larger. Also, the company will refresh the front fascia with new bumper and headlights.

Interior

The existing model is leading the segment with the number of features and options it offers. If you are after the Grand Cherokee, you will find twelve already configured models. The offer starts with Laredo version, mid-range options are Limited and off-road oriented Trailhawk 4×4, while the most expensive variants are SRT and Trackhawk with monster output. Summit and High Altitude will be the only 2WD models that cost more than $50,000.

The base configuration comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display and Uconnect infotainment. Blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert are standard safety features. With the entry-level model, you are also getting parking assist and dual-zone climate. Optionally, you can obtain power liftgate, larger wheels, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, or navigation. Of course, there are larger screens and premium Harman Kardon audio with more speakers and a surround system. Ventilated front seats are also optional, as well as the heating for the rear buckets.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Drivetrains

The entry-level models of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee will keep a V6 engine as the base unit. This is the 3.6-liter displacement capable to produce 300 hp. It fits the mid-size segment. But, the situation escalates very quickly with the SUV offering a pair of V8 engines. The smaller one boosts the power output by 60 hp and also makes 390 lb-ft. A 5.7-liter engine will be found only in configuration with an all-wheel drive. The same you will see with the largest drivetrain in the lineup. A 6.4-liter Hemi engine is available for the SRT edition and creates 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of twist.

For most models in the FCA’s squad, SRT would be the most powerful option. But not for the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Trackhawk edition is using a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine to burst 707 horsepower. We have some hints that SUV could push this output even further. Dodge Challenger and Charger are coming with 717 and even 797 hp. We are not so confident into 800 hp variant, but it is not unlikely that Grand Cherokee will gain 10 ponies. Some aftermarket upgrades are making the SUV a 1000-hp model with special superchargers and other features.

Hybrid

Could the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee bring a hybrid engine? Well, the FCA already offers a big mild-hybrid system for the Ram 1500 truck. Whatsoever, it is less likely for other vehicles. The company is developing the plug-in hybrid which will make significant updates on the power and fuel consumption segments. A combination of V6 and electric motor are possible, but the Jeep will stun everyone if pair V8 and powerful batteries. The FCA is a bit late compared to main rivals. Ford invests heavily into electrification and the first units are arriving next season. Chevrolet Bolt is one of the most popular all-electric vehicles. Sooner or later the GM will launch hybrid SUVs.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Price

Grand Cherokee is one of the vehicles with the largest gap between standard and high-end model. The entry-level package will cost only $33,000. We say only because the SUV at the other end triples the price. That is the Trackhawk edition with options. Without extras, this model will cost $90,000. Off-road Trailhawk trim is available at $50,000, while the performance-oriented SRT will come with a $70,000 price tag.
