2021 Jeep Renegade PHEV, Specs, Changes

The capable subcompact crossover has been around for several years and the last-year refresh will certainly keep it fresh and competitive for a couple of more years. However, that doesn’t mean that we won’t see more novelties in the future. The 2021 Jeep Renegade is already coming with a big one. We are talking about the new powertrain option, about the PHEV version, which will bring improvements both in terms of fuel economy and performances.

On the other side, the rest of the lineup will probably carry on in the same way. We might see a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment but other than that, things will remain the same. That means you may count on a crossover that offers pretty amazing off-road performances, more than a decent level of comfort and an intuitive infotainment system. Details about the launch date are still unknown. Still, we don’t expect that the 2021 Jeep Renegade will arrive much earlier than usual.

Without any doubt, the biggest novelty for the next year will be a plug-in hybrid version of this small crossover. The new version has already been presented in late 2019 and we know most of the specs about the new Renegade. The new system is based on a 1.3-liter turbo-four engine. It puts out around 177 horsepower and it comes in pair with an electric motor, which powers rear wheels and delivers around 135 hp. The combined output goes up to around 240 horsepower. That’s is the amount of power that should provide more than respectable performances.

The battery capacity is still a mystery. Still, the company claims the new model will be able to make 31 miles in the all-electric mode. In order to provide enough space for the battery pack, the fuel tank has been squeezed and now features a capacity of 39 liters.

2021 Jeep Renegade Engines

Other than the new PHEV version, the 2021 Jeep Renegade is about to carry on in the same way. This means you may count on two familiar engine options with similar amounts of power. Base models come with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out around 180 horsepower. The optional turbo-four is good for about 177 horsepower. Both engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission and neither engine is particularly impressive in terms of performances.

When it comes to fuel economy the standard engine returns around 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The turbo-four is a little bit more efficient on the open road. So, you may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. In Europe and some other parts of the world, this crossover is available in diesel versions too, as well as with a small 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine.

Exterior and Interior Design

These aspects definitely won’t bring any particular change. When it comes to the exterior styling, you may count on the recognizable design, which hasn’t changed too much with the recent facelift. We saw things like new LED lights, bigger grille and revised bumpers, but most of the things remained the same. Therefore, the best we could see for the next year are new color options.

When it comes to the interior design, the 2021 Jeep Renegade will carry on in the same way certainly. That means you may count on a quite nice-looking cabin. Everything has been constructed pretty well and despite that some areas are made of hard plastics, the overall cabin looks really upscale. The crossover also offers a decent amount of leg and headroom, while the cargo area is on par with rivals. You may count on about 18.5 cubic feet behind the second row, while the overall capacity goes around 50 cubic feet.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, a couple of additions are possible. Still, we believe that most of the things are about to remain the same. Therefore, base models will certainly come with goodies like a 5-inch touchscreen, voice control, Bluetooth, a USB port, and six speakers. In higher trim levels, you can also get bigger 7- or 8.4-inch touchscreens, as well as on things like a nine-speaker premium audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, HD Radio and many more.

In terms of safety, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera only. On the other side, the list of options includes things liken blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, parallel and perpendicular park assist.

2021 Jeep Renegade Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2021 Jeep Renegade sometime in the last quarter of the year. The base price should go around 22.000 dollars, while details about the new PHEV model are yet to come. Some of the potential rivals are models like Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota C-HR etc.
