2021 Land Rover Defender Price, Release Date, Spy Shots

The release date is not official yet, but we know the 2021 Land Rover Defender is coming soon. Fans expected it in 2020, but the company postponed the debut. It is now likely that SUV is coming as 2021 YM, rather than some kind of a late update for the upcoming season.

Still, the entire automotive world wants to know what JLR is up to wit the new SUV. Their lineup is pretty crowded. We didn’t get too many updates at the Defender’s first appearance. Auto Show in Frankfurt is one of the largest in the world. By choosing this stage for the debut, the company shows the 2021 Land Rover Defender is going to be one of the hottest additions in the near future. So, we must stay tuned for further updates by the JLR.

The last Defender came out from factories in 2015. However, there are 20 years since this vehicle is not available in the US. Now, the company is ready to bring it back. Old, boxy look with a lot of modern technology and upgrades will make it special. That is exactly what we expected from the 2021 Defender.

2021 Land Rover Defender Styling

We know the comeback of the nameplate will bring back the classic boxy look. Well, that is the Defender’s trademark. Also, we knew the company would modernize the SUV and make it modern. They did it as well. But, we didn’t see a 2-door configuration coming. The debut of the 2021 Land Rover Defender unveiled such layout, although experts are sure the future vehicle will also be available with a four-door configuration.

If there were doubts, now everything is clear – the new 2021 Defender is based on the DC100 concept. This one debuted back in 2011, a year before the last generation of the SUV debuted. However, this was a futuristic concept for 2012 YM. Now, after eight years, its language is used on the new vehicle. That is exactly where the two-door layout is coming from.

Specs

The company announced what will power the 2021 Land Rover Defender. The base model will arrive as the S trim, and it gets power from a 2.0-liter engine. A turbo-four unit is capable to deliver nearly 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Besides this one, we will see a 3.0 inline-six powerplant, also turbocharged. In this case, a larger displacement is creating 395 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Both drivetrains are pairing an eight-speed auto gearbox, while the AWD is also standard. The new Defender will be capable to tow up to 8,200 pounds.

2021 Land Rover Defender Features

The new takes a step forward in every way. Well, it is not as luxurious as its premium Range Rover lineup, but the Defender still can buy you with its equipment. For example, the JLR invested a lot in electronic functions. So, now we have the new PIVI Pro infotainment with a 10-inch touchscreen display as the center of the cabin. Of course, Land Rover added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as two modern services that will make your smartphone operations a lot easier. The PIVI Pro system starts immediately, and it doesn’t waste time to boot. With it, Land Rover fixed one of the biggest lacks we can find in their other models.

The new vehicle also offers navigation. But, from what we have in other vehicles, drivers must be aware that there are some tricks. Of course, you can drive to your known destinations without using audio controls. Center touchscreen shows 3D maps and updates the traffic. Head-up display improves the overall impression and safety as well, with its capability to reproduce videos. A backup camera is showing what is happening behind the vehicle on the rearview mirror.

Trim Levels and Prices are Already Unveiled

There will be two different configurations of the 2021 Land Rover Defender. The first one, Defender 110, is coming in 2020, while the Defender 90 is the version that will follow the debut in a few months. When it hits the showrooms, the SUV will cost $51,000. The company offers other versions that will increase the price by nearly $13,000. However, the X edition is top of the class model, with the price tag just under $82,000. The company is yet to release the pricing of the next Defender 90 and its trim levels.

2021 Land Rover Defender vs Ford Bronco

When the two-door 2021 Land Rover Defender appeared, the first impression was – JLR is taking on the new Ford Bronco. A lot of mystery is around this comeback. The Blue Oval company announced its comeback five years ago. Now, they confirmed it. But, we still don’t have a clue what will it look like, what kinds of engines it is about to use, and how much Bronco is going to cost. But, we have its first rival. Definitely, Ford’s vehicle will find another two-door SUV to compete with 2021 Defender.
