2021 Mazda CX-3 Review: Interior, Sport, Price, Changes, Turbo, GX

The smallest crossover in Mazda’s lineup has been around for nearly five years and it looks like it will remain in production for a couple more. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the 2021 Mazda CX-3 is coming without more important updates. The overall design remains the same, as well as most of the features. Practically, the most important novelties for this year are improved automatic LED headlights, as well as some additions to the list of standard equipment. Other than that, things have remained pretty much the same.

This means you may count on a crossover that has both good and bad sides. When it comes to good sizes, we definitely like the model’s look, as well as the interior design. Also, the handling is pretty amazing, while the amount of standard equipment is pretty impressive for the segment. On the other side, the things that aren’t so impressive are mostly in terms of interior and cargo space.

2021 Mazda CX-3 Redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2021 Mazda CX-3 continues in a familiar way, without more important changes.  The current generation has been around since 2015 and it relies on the company’s well-known SkyActiv technology, whether it’s about mechanics or styling. Speaking of the styling, this small crossover still looks pretty attractive, despite the age. It is still one of the best-looking  crossovers in the class. Furthermore, the chassis setup is pretty amazing, so the handling and overall ride quality are on a pretty amazing level. That’s why the Japanese manufacturer isn’t rushing with bigger changes, which probably won’t happen in the next couple of years.

Interior

Once again, there are no bigger changes, so the 2021 Mazda CX-3 continues with a familiar cabin layout. This means you may count on both strong and weak points. Still, the former are much more numerous. First of all, we are talking about one of the best-looking cabins in the class. The dashboard looks really amazing, while the overall quality is impressive. Fine materials are all around the cabin, which fit and finish are at impressive level. Also, the amount of standard and available features is pretty impressive, which makes this cabin look even better.

On the other side, modest dimensions definitely affect comfort and practicality. While front seats are pretty solid in terms of comfort, the back ones are pretty tight, even for this segment. Adults definitely won’t feel particularly comfortable, especially those taller ones. Things aren’t much better in terms of cargo volume either. You may count on about 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second-row seats and 42.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. Those are some of the lowest ratings in the class.

2021 Mazda CX-3 Engine

Under the hood, the 2021 Mazda CX-3 continues with a familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This naturally-aspirated unit delivers around 148 horspeower. For daily commuting, this amount of power seems more than decent. On the other side, things aren’t that convenient on the highway, but that’s the aspect where nearly every subcompact crossover struggles. On the other side, we really like how a 6-speed automatic transmission works.

The aspect where this crossover really impresses is fuel economy. You may count on about 29 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. Those are some of the highest ratings in the class.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, most of the things have remained the same. Therefore, all models come standard with tech goodies like automatic climate control, a 7-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, voice recognition, and a USB port. Additionally, you can get goodies like auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and interior ambient lighting.

Novelties have come in terms of safety features, as the Night vision pedestrian detection is now on the list of standard features. This list also includes systems like automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, head up display, stop and go adaptive cruise control and many more.
