2021 Mazda CX-30 Gets Turbo-Four Powertrain

It looks like Mazda has finally found a perfect measure for the subcompact segment. While the entry-level CX-3 seems tight for most drivers, this one comes based on the new Mazda 3 and offers notably more passenger space and plenty of cargo volume. At the same time, it keeps a pretty small size. It is a pretty fresh model, which arrived last year. Still, that doesn’t mean there are no novelties for the 2021 Mazda CX-30. There may be just a couple of them, but they are really significant.

Speaking of the novelties for the next year, there is no doubt that the optional turbo-four is the most important one. Also, we should mention that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be on the list of standard features in the 2021 Mazda CX-30, which is a nice addition as well. Other than that, most of the things are about to remain the same. So, you may count on a stylish crossover, which offers a luxurious cabin and impressive handling, which will be much faster, thanks to the new engine.

2021 Mazda CX-30 Powertrain

There is no doubt that the biggest novelty for the 2021 Mazda CX-30 is a new engine. So far, this crossover was available with a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine, which puts out around 185 horsepower. The engine’s work culture is really nice, while the fuel economy is at a high level as well. There is really nothing to complain about this engine but this chassis is simply begging for more power.

More power is coming, significantly more, as the well-known 2.5-liter turbo-four will be offered as an option. This engine puts out around 227 horsepower on regular fuel, while the max output can go up to a full 250 horsepower on premium fuel, which guarantees impressive acceleration, given the model’s size and weight. We are still waiting for the numbers in terms of acceleration and other performance figures.

2021 Mazda CX-30 Redesign

The new engine is a huge novelty but we are talking about a very fresh model that has been around for just one year. So, bigger changes in terms of the design won’t come. The 2021 Mazda CX-30 will continue with the same mechanics, based on the latest version of the company’s well-known SkyActive platform. The CX-30 shares most of its parts with the Mazda 3 hatchback and the only notable mechanical difference is in terms of suspension.

This suspension upgrade makes the ground clearance higher and that also has a visual impact on the stylish crossover. Most of the aesthetics, though, is the same as on the hatchback sibling, especially at the front. Still, you will find typical crossover design solutions, particularly in terms of black plastic surfaces around fenders, on bumpers and in similar areas.

Interior

On the inside, we won’t see any particular change for the next year. Simply, this is still a very fresh model and the fact that Mazda offers some of the most luxurious and best-looking cabins in the segment makes us expect nothing different. Simply, the combination of materials, aesthetics and overall build quality is something you won’t find in any other place. Also, the long list of standard and available equipment makes everything look even more opulent.

Also, the thing we really like about this crossover is the amount of space. This is one of the rare Mazda models that is actually generous in space when compared to rivals. Both rows of seats are spacious and comfortable, while the cargo area is also pretty impressive. You may count on about 20 cubic feet behind the second row, which is actually pretty good for a subcompact crossover.

Features

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 came with a big novelty in terms of features, as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay have been added to the list of standard equipment. Other than that, most of the things have remained the same, but that’s not a bad thing at all. Among standard features, you can find goodies like a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, an 8.8-inch infotainment display, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, voice recognition, an eight-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and two USB ports.

Additionally, you can get things like navigation, satellite radio, wireless charging, premium audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof and many more.

When it comes to safety features, the list of standard features is also pretty long. It includes things like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic high-beams and many more.
