2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Gets Facelift

Three years ago, we saw the famous nameplate in the form of a crossover for the first time. These days, it looks like it’s time for a refresh. Therefore, the 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is coming with interesting novelties. The Japanese manufacturer has decided to make several changes and make this SUV more appealing to buyers.

The new model will come with new styling, more attractive than before. The cabin also comes with interesting updates, particularly in terms of a new infotainment screen. Finally, the familiar 1.5-liter engine has been revised and should deliver smoother performances. A plug-in hybrid is expected as well.

2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Design

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross won’t change. Simply, we are talking about a model that has been around for just three years, so there is no need for bigger modifications in terms of mechanics. On the other side, aesthetics will suffer a lot. The new model has already been presented in certain parts of the world and changes are pretty notable.

This particularly refers to the front end, where you can find a new grille and bumper, while headlights seem slightly narrower compared to the current model. Altogether, these novelties make the car look pretty futuristic. Changes are coming to the rear end as well. The first thing you will notice is that there is no more that LED stripe that connects taillights, which have been revised as well.

Interior

On the inside, you can notice a couple of interesting tweaks as well. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is a new infotainment screen. We are talking about a tablet-like 8.0-inch touchscreen, which is now positioned higher and comes with new software. The center stack has been revised as well, so you can see new climate controls and similar things. However, the overall cabin layout remains largely the same, so you may count on the same amount of room and same cargo volume, which goes around 22.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 49 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

We also count on additions to the list of standard equipment. The current model comes standard with goodies like a USB port, Bluetooth, HD Radio, and a four-speaker stereo. The new model should come standard with goodies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, more USB ports, more speakers and similar upgrades.

2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Engine

Changes are coming under the hood as well. The familiar 1.5-liter engine will carry on, but we are about to see some revisions. Allegedly, the new version of this engine will come with a new turbocharger, which will reduce turbo lag that characterizes the current version. In practice, this means more power at lower RPMs and better overall driving dynamics, even though the max output will probably remain the same. To remind you, this engine delivers around 152 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

Some sources also suggest the possibility of a plug-in hybrid version. According to these reports, we would see the same system that powers the Outlander, which is based on a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which comes in pair with two electric motors. The max output goes around 200 horsepower and this system is particularly great in terms of emissions, which are incredibly low.
