2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Interior, Specs, News, Price

Mitsubishi’s famous SUV is entering the new generation. The carmaker decided to update the vehicle after 15 years to be more competitive with the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Fortuner. The 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero will follow the way of its smaller sibling. Pajero Sport suffered a redesign for the current season. Now, some similar features will be available on the full-size model.

Cosmetic changes on the big rig will make it more aggressive. Pajero was one of the most popular SUVs during the 90s. However, the competition is bigger now, and it seems like Mitsubishi is slowing down. The next-gen 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero could refresh the interest and we hope that the company has the intention to show up in the US market. The hybrid engine would help Mitsubishi achieve required emission and efficiency standards. However, Pajero needs a lot more power than Outlander is currently getting from its PHEV system.

Dimensions

Pajero is currently 192 inches long and it is advertised as a full-size SUV. The new model is not going to gain extra length since the same platform will underpin the body. In the US, this is more of a mid-size model. For example, Mazda CX-9 is 199 inches long and it is in a smaller class. Meanwhile, the length of the Nissan Patrol, Pajero’s rival in Pacific Asia, is 203 inches. So, it is questionable if the SUV belongs to the full-size segment. For example, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is just two inches shorter and it is a mid-size vehicle.

2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Electrification

The new 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero might get some kind of an electric drivetrain. The Japanese carmaker is already in this market with Outlander PHEV. However, this crossover is delivering only 115 horsepower. The large SUV needs a lot more energy. Mitsubishi has chosen one of the leading names in this realm – Nissan. Joined forces within the famous alliance already resulted in Outlander. The next target is Pajero, that is for sure.

The SUV is not getting an all-electric version, but a mild-hybrid system. There are a variety of engines that could serve as the base for the configuration. Some rumors claim that hybrid setup could use a diesel unit, but it cuts chances for appearance in the USA. Still, this is all questionable, since the company is not giving us any hints.

Specs

Diesel engines remain the main options for the Pajero. Mitsubishi is not going to change its 3.2-liter V6 unit as the most popular unit. This one is ready to burst 190 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission is a power router and it forwards energy to the rear or all wheels.

A 2.4-liter displacement is the freshest one, but only Chinese buyers can buy it. Other engines are limited to some markets, but we believe this version could show up in some other countries. With 180 hp and 320 lb-ft, it is quite a refreshment. Here, we find another diesel unit. A 3.0-liter is an alternative, while there are also 2.8 and 3.8 units in the squad.

2021 Mitsubishi Pajero vs Montero

Do not be surprised if you see Pajero in some markets advertised as Montero. Like the L200 truck, this SUV uses several names in different countries. Another nameplate is Shogun, and this one is available only in the UK. On the other hand, the Montero is reserved mostly for Pacific Asia, including India, the Philippines, and Malaysia. In all other markets, including Europe, we will find the SUV as Pajero.

What is the Pajero Sport?

The carmaker expanded the lineup and the latest model from 2016 made a strong impact. Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a smaller version of its famous sibling. Last year the company launched a refreshed version and it could be the indicator what we could expect from the Pajero/Montero after the redesign. The sportier SUV uses 2.4 and 2.5 displacements, while the only petrol unit is a 3.0. Experts believe this one could serve as the base for the future hybrid powertrain both for Pajero and Pajero Sport.

2021 Mitsubishi Pajero Redesign and New Generation

The new 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero will look more aggressive than ever. Also, an important change will be a higher usage of lightweight materials. It will put the SUV on diet and improve the gas mileage. The front fascia will present the new look and Pajero will look like the Sport edition. 17-inch wheels remain standard, while you can upgrade rims with 18- and 19-inchers.

There will be more infotainment features than before. Apple CarPlay is included, and a seven-inch touchscreen display is taking the central position. Cruise control, rear-view camera, and plenty of other active safety systems are available with the base model.

The 2021 Mitsubishi Pajero will be the seven-seater, but you will also find a version with two rows of seats. Upper trim levels are coming with leather surfaces, premium audio, and even navigation. Side steps and roof rails are also either optional or available through exclusive packages.
