2021 Nissan Pathfinder Release Date, Interior, Price, Pictures

The 2021 Nissan Pathfinder is a seven-seat SUV with a lot of space for passengers and cargo. The third row is not suitable for adults, and if you fold them, you can get extra room behind middles seats. Under the hood of the new edition will remain an old drivetrain. It is a proven V6 configuration in combination with the V6 engine. The biggest question is if the carmaker is going to launch its popular vehicle with a hybrid unit. According to multiple sources, it is just a matter of time.

Speculations regarding the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder are numerous since this is one of the most popular mid-size three-row SUVs. Engineers are also considering a turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant, which would improve the fuel economy, but the power outputs and towing capacity would suffer. The redesign is going to introduce the new look of the Pathfinder. Lighter materials will make the SUV easier to maneuver.

2021 Nissan Pathfinder Engines

Changes on the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder won’t affect the only source of power for the current generation. It is a reliable V6 unit which is one of the reasons for the SUV’s popularity. Buyers are in love with the 3.5-liter displacement, which can crank 290 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Compared to its rivals, this is the average value, with some competitors on both sides of this number. But, the Pathfinder can tow up to 6,000 pounds, which is better than most other SUVs can do. A CVT gearbox is distributing power and buyers will decide if it goes to two or four wheels.

To stay competitive, the 2021 Pathfinder will have to offer some other option. Across the sea, the SUV is using a diesel unit. However, it is not likely that Nissan is bringing it to the US. They even cut a huge Cummins engine from the Titan XD truck. We have in mind a turbo-four drivetrain. For example, the new Altima sedan offers a 2.0-l mill capable of producing 250 horsepower. It would be a downgrade, but the SUV is going to gain some extra miles. The sedan returns 29 mpg combined, but it is nearly 1,000 pounds lighter.

Hybrid

One of the versions we expect to see in the foreseeable future is the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid. We could say this is the priority with the new Ford Explorer using such source of power, and Toyota Highlander upgrading its offer to the plug-in system.

Nissan was a leader in electrification. Its Leaf is the best-selling EV ever. But, more companies are now in the market and the Japanese manufacturer is not evolving. Electrification of the big SUV is a challenge – it will gain the mileage, but it is hard to keep capacities, and vice versa – mild hybrid systems are not bringing the mpg boost everyone expects. There are no sources that confirm the development of the Pathfinder Hybrid, but the rumors suggest this is about to happen pretty soon.

Off-Road Version

Currently, the Pathfinder comes in several trim levels. But, none of them is capable of serious off-roading. Well, the reliable SUV is used by special forces in Europe, but in the USA there are more and more all-terrain vehicles for adventurers. With the new Ford Bronco on the way, Nissan has to improve the offer.

We have in mind the Pro-4X version. This package is available for the Frontier truck. The bundle comes with skid plates and electronic locking rear differentials. Plus, there are all-terrain tires and special visual upgrades. Not only the exterior but also the cabin suffers some changes. On this trim level, leather is standard for upholstery, and the carmaker boosts the infotainment with a larger screen and more safety options.

2021 Nissan Pathfinder Redesign

The Pathfinder is known for its bold look and aggressive appearance. Well, the new edition should continue the legacy. But, we still don’t have any spy photos to see the direction of development. Two recent concepts could underpin the new SUV. Ariya is the platform for electric crossovers, while the Monograph architecture is going to serve as the base for large luxury SUVs. The new 2021 Nissan Pathfinder will pick some ideas from both concepts and craft them into the new generation.

What do we expect from the SUV? It will be more aggressive, smarter, and comfortable. The new Pathfinder could grow a bit and provide extra space for passengers. The carmaker is also working on improvement of the safety systems, although Nissan Intelligent Mobility receives great feedback.

2021 Nissan Pathfinder Release Date

The new SUV is not going to be ready so soon. We could see its first appearance in Detroit, but do not expect to find out more than we already know. The release date and the sales start are scheduled for the last quarter of 2020. Even if it happens, hybrid Pathfinder is going to arrive later than the standard lineup.
