2021 RAM Ramcharger: More Than Rumor?

Unlike the other two of the Big Three, FCA doesn’t have a proper full-size SUV on the offer for decades. However, things could change soon, as we’ve been hearing reports about the comeback of the legendary Ramcharger. This nameplate has been in use for decades, for a genuine SUV and capable off-road. This also means that purists will have pretty big expectations from the comeback model. At this point, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials.

Even though the officials are still quiet, many aspects of the new 2021 RAM Ramcharger are easy to predict. First of all, this refers to the platform, which should be shared with RAM 1500. Also, we count on a full-size layout, on a model that will compete with established nameplates, such as Tahoe and Expedition. However, this model should be more rugged, and we also count on a capable off-road version.

The most ambitious rumors suggest we could see this model already by the end of this year. However, the next year sounds more likely in our ears.

2021 RAM Ramcharger Redesign

One of the first things that come to mind about the 2021 RAM Ramcharger is the platform. Unlike the new Blazer, which came as a crossover, this model will respect tradition. Just like the new Bronco, it will also come as a genuine BoF SUV. Moreover, it will also keep the full-size layout, which wasn’t the case with the new Bronco.

So, it seems pretty obvious that the platform used for this model will be the same one that underprints RAM 1500. The pickup truck offers so many great things, so we have no doubt that this architecture would be a perfect choice for the new Ramcharger. Practically, most of the mechanics should be the same, including the powertrain lineup.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, the first thing to mention is that this will be a full-size SUV. You may count on a rugger, SUV appearance with a pretty long wheelbase and typical SUV layout that looks more like a wagon. Of course, the front end will be the most prominent and we have no doubt it would use the same design language as the pickup sibling. Moreover, we believe that the two faces would look nearly identical.

Also, we can hear reports about the performance version. This model would come with the TRX badge and it would feature all kinds of upgrades compared to standard models. This doesn’t refer to the engine only, but also to a long list of off-road hardware. Naturally, exclusive styling elements would come as well and we’ve already seen a couple of rendering photos that show how this version would look like.

Interior

We are pretty sure that RAM engineers wouldn’t bother too much with the interior design. Simply, the current RAM 1500 already looks impressive and there is no reason why we wouldn’t see the same layout in the new SUV. Of course, we are talking primarily about the dashboard design, which looks luxurious and utilizes some pretty impressive materials. The build quality is great too, while the long list of standard and available tech features would make everything look even more upscale.

We presume that the new 2021 RAM Ramcharger would feature around 120 inches in wheelbase. That would mean a lot of interior space. Naturally, the third row would be there, at least as an option, which would allow eight adult passengers to accommodate with ease. Logically, the cargo area shouldn’t be any less impressive than that.

2021 RAM Ramcharger Engines

This aspect shouldn’t bring any surprises and the powertrain lineup should include three of four familiar units. Base versions would probably come with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which puts out around 305 horsepower. Of course, we also count on a well-known 5.7-liter HEMI V8, which puts out around 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Both engines would come with 8-speed automatic transmission.

We also don’t see why this SUV wouldn’t come in a diesel version as well. If that happens, the 2021 RAM Ramcharger would use a familiar 3.0-liter V6, which is good for about 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, there is the TRX version. This model would use a well-known 6.2-liter Hellcat engine, which has recently debuted in the Rebel TRX. With 700+ horsepower, there is no doubt it would provide impressive performances. Besides plenty of power, this model would also come with plenty of additional off-road hardware, as we already mentioned.

2021 RAM Ramcharger Release Date and Price

Rumors speculate about the launch date by the end of this year but we don’t believe we could see the new model that soon. Instead, we would rather see it sometime in the next year. If it arrives, we presume that base models would go around 50.000 dollars, roughly.
