2021 Subaru Crosstrek Gets More Power and New Sport Trim

The current generation of Subaru’s smallest crossover has been around for just a couple of years but the Japanese manufacturer decided to bring some really nice updates for the next-year model. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is coming with some pretty important changes and the biggest one is a new engine. So far, the biggest complaint about this versatile crossover was about the lackluster engine but that shouldn’t be the case anymore. Besides more power, the new model also comes with a slightly revised front fascia and a couple of more tweaks. Other than that, things remain pretty much the same.

This means you may count on a familiar design, which has a lot of great things to offer. The Crosstrek is spacious and very practical, while the cabin also looks very nice and features high overall quality. Of course, you may count on Subaru’s excellent AWD system and a very comfortable ride. We expect to see it in showrooms this fall.

2021 Subaru Crosstrek Gets New Engine

Without any doubt, the biggest novelty for the next year is a new engine option. So far, this crossover was available with a 2.0-liter engine, which puts out 152 horsepower. That’s okay power for daily commuting but most critics say that it’s a real shame this crossover doesn’t come with something more powerful, given the excellent AWD system. Therefore, the Japanese manufacturer brings a new powertrain option, a 2.5-liter Boxer engine, which puts out around 182 horsepower. That’s a nice power boost, which will certainly have a positive impact on driving dynamics. We expect that this engine will also be offered with manual or CVT gearbox

When it comes to fuel economy, numbers for the new engine are still unavailable. On the other side, the 2.0-liter unit returns around 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which are pretty good ratings, considering the AWD drive.

Of course, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek will also continue with a hybrid version in the offer. It is a plug-in hybrid version, which features a combination of a gasoline engine and two electric motors. The total output goes around 150 horsepower and driving dynamics are really good in urban conditions. On the other side, the lack of power is noticeable at highway speeds. Also, you may count on 17 miles of the all-electric range, while you can use either 120-volt or 240-volt outlet for charging.

2021 Subaru Crosstrek Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek hasn’t changed at all. We are talking about the same overall layout, which has been introduced a couple of years ago. Most of the things remained the same but the next-year model brings a couple of novelties in terms of aesthetics. There is a new front fascia, which makes this crossover look a little bit sportier. Other than that, things remained mostly the same.

Interior

The same thing goes for interior design. The dashboard looks largely the same, which means you may count on an attractive look, which comes in a combination with quality materials. This is one of the nicest cabins in the class and you will hardly find a rival that offers more in terms of interior design. Higher trim levels look particularly luxurious.

Besides great overall quality, this cabin also offers plenty of space. Both rows offer a solid amount of passenger room, so adults can enjoy comfortable rides in both rows. Besides plenty of space, this crossover also offers excellent visibility in all directions.

When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on 20.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 55.3 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. Those are pretty impressive numbers for the class.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek won’t bring many changes compared to the current model. There is a new Sport trim, which comes with 17-inch wheels, yellow-stitched upholstery, carbon-fiber trim, and advanced driving modes. On the other side, the rest of the lineup remains the same. This means that all models will come standard with goodies like a 6.5-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a four-speaker stereo. In more expensive versions, you can get goodies like an 8-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker stereo, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, additional USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, navigation etc.

When it comes to safety features, a rearview camera is the only standard feature, while you can also get goodies like blind spot monitoring, lane change assists, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure and sway warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights and many more.
