2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Price, USA, Hybrid

Could we see the end of an era after 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser? The nameplate serves for 60 years, and the company needs to do something to keep the legendary SUV expendable. Land Cruiser is old, it is very expensive, and consumes too much fuel. A redesign could help, as well as the new generation. But, the sales are very slow and it seems the next generation of the LC is very questionable.

One thing we can’t take off the SUV – it closed the gap between luxury and utility. You won’t find any other luxury model with nearly similar off-road capabilities. But, if you are frequently out on the outskirts, then you will often have to pay a lot of money for the maintenance – cleaning, paintjobs, etc… For example, the 4Runner is nearly as capable as Land Cruiser and costs $40,000 less. For this difference, you can build the SUV with many accessories. On the other hand, it won’t offer the luxury the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser is unique for.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser vs Lexus LX600

The full-size segment is generally not so popular. Buyers are more keen on the compact models, whose sales are telling enough. Eventually, mid-size three-row models are working if you need more space. That is why Toyota is not updating Land Cruiser for so long. The latest facelift is from 2016.

But, the good news is coming from the luxury division. Lexus registered the new nameplate, LX600. It will replace the existing LX570 in the foreseeable future. Since this model shares a lot of things in common with the LC, we can also see the next-gen Land Cruiser. But, not in 2021.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser V8 Specs, Replacement is Almost Ready

For a long time, we were expecting news about the next generation and the new drivetrain. Still, the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser will get the power from a 5.7-liter V8 unit capable of producing 380 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The reliable unit makes the SUV one of the best haulers in the class with nearly 9,000 pounds of towing capacity. Still, the competition is using more turbocharged versions to maximize power. Well, the LC is not going to catch up with Range Rover or Mercedes, since the V8 is providing a lot of energy for an off-road drive.

Still, Toyota could make changes under the hood of its largest models. A twin-turbo V6 is reportedly highly regarded as the replacement for V8. Well, we still don’t know exact plans, but the new setup must respond to all the requirements as its predecessor.

New Generation is Arriving in 2023

It is hard to believe that the company will cut its most iconic SUV. It still sells great outside the US. The new generation could shake things up and we found a bit of information about it. The Japanese carmaker plans to redesign its large vehicles, starting from 2022. Tundra truck and Highlander SUV are the priorities, while in the following year we could finally see Land Cruiser 300 Series. Tacoma and 4Runner are the last models that would see the update.

Truck, Diesel, Hybrid Rumors

Actually, the Land Cruiser truck exists. The company split the LC brand to luxury and utility variants. While the first one is still capable of doing some work, specialists for hauling are coming out as Land Cruiser 70 in Australia. However, this lineup is not coming to the US any time soon.

The SUV is also quite different in other markets. Do not let the price fool you since overseas models are not as near as luxurious as the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser in the US. But, compared to its siblings, European models are offering a diesel unit. Fans were asking about a V8 coming to the United States, but this is not going to happen.

Instead, the carmaker could turn to the greener power. Hybrid technology is not good enough to support off-roading. However, in the foreseeable future, we are sure there will be a sort of electric system that will be able to provide enough fun in tough terrains.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Release Date, Future

The new 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser is not suffering big changes, so the company is not going to make a show of its debut. Well, when the next generation arrives, that will be worth waiting. Fans were pretty enthusiastic about the redesign, but the latest speculations regarding the discontinuation shocked the entire publicity.

We still believe the LC can offer a lot to the SUV segment since no other vehicle combines luxury and off-roading so well. Still, the outdated model needs a huge overhaul, and the profitability of developing the full-size SUV is questionable, not only for Toyota. The carmaker has to prepare something radical, such as a plug-in hybrid engine or way more attractive body style.
