Today’s automotive industry is mostly about electrification and as one of the biggest carmakers in the world, VW is also working on a whole new palette of such vehicles. At this point, we already know two models that are coming for the next year. Both will be part of the new ID subbrand and both will be a crossover. Today, we will discuss a potentially more capable version, which will come as the 2021 VW ID.4 X.
This model will be bigger and sit higher compared to another ID.4 model, called Crozz. On the other side, the two models will feature the same wheelbase and share a vast majority of parts. The new model already presented its exterior design, while we are still waiting to see how interior design will look like. In any case, the new model is almost ready for production and expect to see it in showrooms soon.

2021 VW ID.4 X Drivetrain
As electric cars are still a new thing in the business, the drivetrain is still their most interesting part. The 2021 VW ID.4 X won’t be an exception, as we are about to see a pretty interesting setup, which will be offered in two or more variants. The base version will come with a single electric motor, mounted on the rear axle, with a max output of 201 horsepower. That should be more than enough for decent performances, while higher trim levels will come equipped with the additional electric motor, with an additional 100 horsepower.
When it comes to the battery package, we still don’t know the exact capacity, but the company claims max range of 310 miles, which sounds really impressive. This is more compared to potential future rivals, such as Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV. The exact details should arrive soon.

2021 VW ID.4 X Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the German manufacturer will offer two ID.4 models, with similar design characteristics. One of them will be 2021 VW ID.4 X and this will be a more capable version of the two. The two models will feature the same wheelbase, but the X-badged model will be longer and feature higher ground clearance.
In terms of the styling, the two models won’t feature a significant difference. Moreover, you won’t see any particular design characteristic that will help this model stand out from the rest of the VW lineup. Of course, there are some exclusive details that accentuate the model’s all-electric nature, but the overall styling is designed in a typically dull VW manner, with super-conservative styling solutions and overall shape. However, we have to say that the final, production version is yet to get a premiere, but we really don’t expect too much from it.
Interior
At this point, we don’t know too much about the interior, as the company has shown the exterior styling only. The dashboard design and the rest of the cabin design are still a mystery, though we have no doubt that the German manufacturer will do a great job once again an offer a well-built cabin with hi-quality materials. Of course, everything should be spiced up with a couple of futuristic details.
When it comes to the interior space and comfort, 108.8 inches in wheelbase will certainly provide plenty of legroom in both rows, while the cargo area should be generous as well. Some sources suggest we could see a three-row model in the offer as well, but keep that with a reserve.

Release Date and Pricing
We expect to see 2021 VW ID.4 X on the market by the end of the year. When it comes to the price, it looks like the new crossover will be quite affordable, as the base models are expected to go around 35.000 dollars. On the other side, most expensive versions are expected to get pretty close to 50.000 dollars.
What About 2021 VW ID.4 Crozz
This will be another version of the new ID.4. Compared to the X-badged model, it will feature lower ground clearance and it will be slightly shorter. It will be a kind of more sophisticated version, designed primarily for the urban ride. In terms of the styling, there won’t be too many differences, though the front bumper design will be slightly different. On the other side, the drivetrain will be pretty much the same.
