2021 VW Touareg USA, Price, R, Spy shots

Volkswagen is not delivering Touareg in the US anymore. Still, this SUV is still the largest vehicle in this class by the German carmaker. Of course, the biggest market in the world has its twin – VW Atlas. This versatile model has a great platform that could serve for the future truck. The new 2021 VW Touareg will be modified. Its latest generation arrived in 2018. In this season the company rebadged the SUV for the US market and released it as Atlas.

One thing makes the Touareg so popular – the MLB platform. This architecture was used for premium vehicles only, mostly Audis. Now, it is also available for the 2021 VW Touareg. The highlight of this platform is the same position of the engine. So, when building the new vehicle, engineers and designers won’t have to spend time on this.

The new Touareg for the upcoming season will suffer a minor facelift. We expect the same from the Volkswagen Atlas. However, the biggest update is the new trim level. As many experts predicted, the carmaker will bring the popular R model. However, what they didn’t aware of is that the new vehicle is going to use the plug-in hybrid system.

2021 VW Touareg R Specs

The R badge brings a lot. This is the mark of the performance-oriented version and we couldn’t wait to see the mid-size SUV with this upgrade. This is official info and VW’s chiefs confirmed the first R vehicle is going to be Golf. After the most popular model in the portfolio, Volkswagen will also deliver the Touareg with performance optimization.

This is not the first time the big SUV is available with specs to boost equipment. Previously, a 5.0-liter V10 unit was under the hood to deliver 350 hp. Well, this diesel model is less powerful than the current regular model with a 4.0-liter displacement.

There are two possibilities for the plug-in hybrid setup. The more likely one is to upgrade a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. This one is available for Atlas only. But, this version is already available in the Chinese market, where it crunches 360 hp. It is a decent output for a four-pot mill. Another option is to wait for the new V6. For a quite while we are listening to rumors about the new 3.0 engine. Electrified, it could be part of the 2021 VW Touareg R lineup.

Base Engines

Under the bonnet of the base 2021 VW Touareg will be a 3.0 TSFI engine. This is the only petrol option for the SUV. With 290 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, it is more potent than most similar models in the US (Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse…).

The famous BlueMotion diesel unit is a favorite among buyers in Europe. A 3.0-liter engine is good for 235 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. It is not as fast as the gasoline version, needing more time to hit 60 mph (7.8 seconds) and reaching 130 mph. If you want to boost the outputs, a 4.0-liter turbo-eight is crunching 335 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of twist. In this case, you will increase the top speed to 150 mph and a V8 needs less than 6 seconds for 0-60 mph acceleration.

2021 VW Touareg Spy Photos, Changes

The SUV is still pretty fresh and it doesn’t require a big update. Of course, the company wants to stay in the game and the biggest cosmetic update will come with the 2021 VW Touareg R model. The performance-oriented vehicle will get unique parts, outside and inside, making it sportier. We expect to see the first spy shots soon so we can compare it to the rest of the lineup and try to figure out what will the R version look like.

Be sure that details will boost the aggressiveness. Larger wheels and spoiler are definitely the first things we would install on the new R model. Of course, there are also sports seats and more equipment inside the vehicle. The SUV is already one of the best offers in the market and the new update will make it even more attractive.

Why Buy 2021 VW Touareg?

The SUV is still new and attractive, so it can draw attention. The reliability that the German carmaker is offering is hard to match. Well, we must praise the performance and drive system, but it is still somehow slow. The 2021 VW Touareg will stop the clock after 7 seconds when sprinting 0-60 mph. Also, a single petrol unit is definitely not what fans want. A turbo-four would deliver another option.

There are at least two good reasons why you should wait for the new model. The first one is the 2021 VW Touareg R version. We already mentioned the mileage and specs boost. Another reason is a superb boot space of the mid-size SUV that can take up to 29 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 7,700 pounds of towing capacity.
