2022 Acura RDX Is Getting Facelift

The RDX is one of the most important models for Acura, with pretty strong sales numbers. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the Japanese manufacturer is preparing updates for the next year’s model, even though the current generation has been around for just a couple of years. The current model was introduced in 2019 and the 2022 Acura RDX is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. The testing model has been spotted and it clearly shows that we can expect a lot of visual updates.

With this update, Acura engineers will put focus on aesthetics. We will see novelties on both ends of the car, particularly at the front. Still, expect subtle changes only, considering that the current model already looks pretty good. Besides aesthetical updates, we also count on more standard equipment than before, while some sources suggest a hybrid version as well.

Despite the updates, the 2022 Acura RDX probably won’t come much earlier than usual and we don’t expect to see it before the last quarter of the year.

2022 Acura RDX Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the upcoming update will be mostly about aesthetics. The testing model has been spotted and if we can judge by the camouflage, there is a lot of new things to come. The front end is completely covered, which means we may expect to see revisions on the grille, headlights, bumper etc. We can see a little bit of camouflage on the rear end as well. Acura engineers covered the rear bumper, which indicates a new shape. Also, the test mule comes with new, rectangular exhaust pipes.

Of course, we should also see typical updates like new colors, wheels and similar things. On the other side, we don’t expect to see any mechanical updates. The current model already stands pretty well in this aspect, offering a good chassis and suspension setup, which provides sporty handling but keeps things quite comfortable as well.

Interior

Unlike the exterior, the interior of 2022 Acura RDX probably won’t feature bigger changes. That’s not a bad thing at all, considering that the current model already looks pretty nice from the inside. The materials are nice, while the build quality is very good. Furthermore, the dashboard borrows some styling elements from the NSX supercar and looks pretty attractive.

Besides good overall quality, this cabin is also characterized by plenty of space. You may count on two very spacious rows of seats, which accommodate adults with ease. Also, the front seats are massive and supportive, and ensure a high level of comfort on longer journeys. The cargo area is also pretty spacious. You may count on about 29.5 cubic feet with the back seats up and 58.9 cubic feet of the total volume, which is above average for the class.

Features

There’s no doubt that the upcoming update will bring changes regarding the new standard and available features. We have no doubt that the new list of standard equipment will be longer, though we don’t expect to see anything radical. Simply, the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. It comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, a 10.2-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, satellite radio, two USB ports, a nine-speaker stereo system, voice recognition, and AcuraLink, which lets you connect to the RDX via your smartphone. We presume that some of the options, such as navigation, two rear-seat USB ports, a 12-speaker premium audio system, a 16-speaker premium surround-sound audio system, and a 10.5-inch head-up display, will become standard in the 2022 Acura RDX.

The same thing is with safety features. The current model comes standard with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beam assist. Additionally, you can get goodies like blind spot warning, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers etc. Some of these could be added to the list of standard features.

2022 Acura RDX Engine

The 2022 Acura RDX will continue with the same engine under the hood. Of course, we are talking about a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It features a max output of 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while the power can be sent to the rear or all wheels. Driving dynamics are very good, while the whole setup feels very refined. When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. That’s about average for the class.

Some rumors also speculate about the hybrid version, which would come with three electric motors. However, the officials are still quiet about this.
