2022 Cadillac Lyriq: Everything We Know So Far

Electric vehicles are in a huge expansion these days and we have no doubt that all major carmakers will come up with such models in the offer in the near future. Cadillac is no exception and we already know that the new model will come in the next year, as the 2022 Cadillac Lyriq. This will be the brand’s first all-electric model on the offer. Of course, it will be a crossover, as that’s the most popular body style in the business these days.

Of course, this model will bring huge amounts of luxury, something we’re all familiar with when it comes to GM’s most luxurious brand. However, this is also a perfect opportunity for the company to show its latest achievements in terms of EV technology, so we have no doubt there will be some pretty interesting solutions in terms of the battery, powertrain, safety features etc.

If we can trust the latest reports, the new model will come already in the next year and won’t be significantly different compared to the concept.

2022 Cadillac Lyriq Redesign

Of course, its EV nature is one of the most interesting things but we will start with base design characteristics first. According to the latest reports, the production version won’t be significantly different from the concept and that leads us to the conclusion that the 2022 Cadillac Lyriq will be bigger than its rivals. With more than 121 inches in wheelbase, it will offer more than future competitors, such as Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-tron, Tesla Model X etc. Still, the size won’t be its only advantage.

Another this to like about this crossover is the styling. As we’ve just mentioned, things shouldn’t be much different between the concept and production model. So, you may count on an ultra-futuristic layout, where you can see a completely new front face, even though there are some small trails of the brand’s recognizable shield grille and other design solutions.

Interior

On the other side, the interior will probably come with notable changes compared to the concept. If you’re familiar with the vehicle that presented last summer, you know it featured a pretty futuristic design. Also, one of the most interesting details was a massive center console in the second row, which separated rear seats. We presume that the production version would come with a more conventional layout, as it would be a real shame to see just four seats in such a big vehicle. Still, we wouldn’t exclude the possibility to see this modernistic layout offered as an option.

When it comes to the dashboard, we truly believe that most of the things will remain the same. This particularly includes that massive setup of screens, which comes in the same fashion as the one in the new Escalade. It integrates instrument cluster, infotainment system and other things into one big unity, which in the flagship SUV measures around 33 inches combined.

Naturally, this model will come fully loaded with features. Besides the aforementioned screens, you may also count on all kinds of connectivity features, including wireless smartphone integration, Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging etc. We also count on a long list of advanced driver aids, including the company’s new Super Cruise autonomous driving system.

2022 Cadillac Lyriq Performance

At this point, we know that the 2022 Cadillac Lyriq will come in two variants when it comes to motors. Standard models will feature a single motor on the rear axle, with a max output of 340 horsepower. That should be enough to provide excellent acceleration and some sources suggest 0-60 time in about 4.5 seconds. Also, higher trim levels will come equipped with an additional electric motor at the front, making the AWD layout. Unfortunately, numbers and other details about this version are still unavailable.

When it comes to the battery, we expect to see the new Ultium technology will be implemented, the same one that is planned for the upcoming Hummer EV. This means a wide range of capacities in the offer, though we expect that the standard package will include a 100-kWh battery, which should provide a max range of around 300 miles. Of course, all kinds of charging options will be supported, including a fast DC charger.
