The current generation of this luxury crossover has been around for about five years and, interestingly, we haven’t seen any major updates so far. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 will continue in the same and the novelties will be minimal. Practically, the only novelties worth mentioning are new features on the range-topping Sport trim, such as new red brake calipers and available 20-inch wheels. Other than that, things remained pretty much untouched.
This means that you may count on familiar design characteristics, on a vehicle that has a couple of good things to offer, despite it hasn’t received any major update for a full five years. So, you may count on a crossover that offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, good gas mileage and solid reliability ratings. On the other side, the main complaints go to below-average interior quality, uninspiring handling and the lack of athleticism.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Cadillac XT5 will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Redesign
Design-wise, this is a quite interesting crossover, positioned between compact and mid-size luxury segments, when it comes to the size. It benefits from the C1 platform, which makes it bigger than most compact rivals. With more than 112 inches in wheelbase, it is large enough to accommodate adult passengers in both rows, but we will get on that in a moment.
This architecture is also a limiting factor in some aspects, especially when it comes to ride quality. We are talking about an FWD crossover, which offers not-so-responsive steering and definitely lacks the athleticism of most rivals. At the same time, it’s not as comfortable as, let’s say, Lexus RX or similar models that don’t put focus on sporty performance.
Styling-wise, not many changes have been made in the last five years. The overall look is the same as in the initial model, while the biggest novelty that the 2022 Cadillac XT5 brings is new red brake calipers for the Sport trim, as well as new available 20-inch wheels.
Interior
On the inside – no bigger changes to come. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 interior will remain untouched, which means you may count on both good and bad things. When it comes to good things, we definitely like the amount of space this crossover offers. As we already mentioned, there are more than 112 inches in the wheelbase, which provides plenty of legroom in both rows. As a result, adult passengers can enjoy a comfortable ride in both rows. The cargo area offers around 30 cubic feet behind the second row and 63 cubic feet of the total volume, which is about average for the class.
On the other side, we are not fans of XT5’s interior quality. It doesn’t look bad, but most rivals feature nicer materials, better build quality and look more upscale overall.
Features
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 won’t bring any notable changes regarding the standard and available equipment. Most things will remain the same as in the current model, which currently comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, 8-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Additionally, you can get goodies like tri-zone climate control, sunroof, wireless device charging, navigation, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, and a rear-seat entertainment system.
When it comes to safety, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera, a safety alert seat, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning. Additionally, you can get a head-up display, night vision assists, a rear camera mirror, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane change alert, rear cross traffic alert, rear pedestrian alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, a surround-view parking camera system etc.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Engines
Things under the hood will certainly remain the same. So, base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 235 horsepower. That’s enough power to satisfy an average drive but we still think that the optional V6 is a much better choice. It features a max output of 310 horsepower and besides more power, it also runs much smoother. Both engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which also does a pretty fine job.
When it comes to fuel economy, the turbo-four returns around 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The V6 is a little bit thirstier and returns around 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
