2022 Cadillac XT5 Preview: Changes, Redesign and Pictures

If we consider that this compact luxury crossover has been around since 2016, as well as the last year’s facelift, it’s petty much for sure that the current generation will remain in production for a few more years. This includes the 2022 Cadillac XT5, which could easily be the last production year of the generation. So, it’s not hard to make a conclusion that there are no bigger changes to come for this model. This will be a typical carryover, though there is always a chance for smaller updates, in terms of additions to the list of standard equipment.

You may count on a familiar layout, which still has to offer a couple of nice things, starting from a quite attractive exterior design, handsome and spacious interior, excellent safety score and a long list of standard and available driver-assistance features. However, this crossover isn’t without flaws and most reviewers criticize its turbo-four engine, ride quality and not particularly engaging handling. We expect to see the 2022 Cadillac XT5 sometime in the last quarter of 2021.

2022 Cadillac XT5 Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, we definitely don’t expect to see any change. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 will continue with the same layout, based on a familiar C1 platform. It measures around 112.5 inches in wheelbase, which puts it between the compact and mid-size segments. In terms of size, it is closer to the mid-size class, but its mechanics are largely the same as in compact Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain models.

The last year’s update has brought a couple of interesting novelties but just a few of them were in terms of the styling. Practically, the only major thing made was a new grille, which comes either in chrome or black finish, depending on the trim level. Therefore, the best we could see for the 2022 Cadillac XT5 could be some new color option in the offer or something like that.

Interior

Once again, no bigger changes are expected. The last-year refresh has brought a couple of interesting novelties, starting from a new rotary controller of the Cadillac CUE system. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 will continue with the same cabin design, which definitely looks luxurious, though it isn’t exactly on par with German rivals in terms of materials and overall refinement.

Interior

On the other side, the model obviously benefits from a long 112.5-inch wheelbase and offers two very spacious rows of seats, which accommodate five adults with ease. Also, the cargo area is one of the biggest in the class. In numbers, it offers around 30 cubic feet behind the second row, while the overall cargo volume goes around 63 cubic feet. A few compact luxury crossovers can match these numbers.

Features

Yearly updates usually bring a couple of novelties to the list of standard equipment. So, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 shouldn’t be an exception. Still, we don’t expect to see anything significant and things should remain pretty much the same as in the current model. The current model comes standard with goodies like dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Additionally, you can get things like tri-zone climate control, sunroof, wireless device charging, navigation, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, and a rear-seat entertainment system. So, some of these could easily become standard in the next year.

The same thing goes for safety features, though we have to say that the current model is already equipped pretty well in this aspect. All models come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning etc.

2022 Cadillac XT5 Engine

This aspect definitely won’t bring changes. So, you may count on two familiar powertrain options. The offer starts with a new 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This is more than a decent amount of power but if you’re looking for something peppier, there is also an optional 3.6-liter V6, which features a max output of 310 horsepower. Besides strong acceleration, this engine also delivers a much smoother performance.

In terms of fuel economy, the turbo-four is a more reasonable choice. It returns around 22 mpg in the city
