The Cadillac’s biggest crossover in the lineup has been around since 2020. Obviously, it’s still early for bigger updates and that’s the reason why the 2022 Cadillac XT6 will remain mostly unchanged. The overall design remains the same, while the biggest novelties are the new standard and available features. The next year’s model brings new standard safety features, while the Sport trim brings upgraded brakes. Other than that, things are pretty much the same as in the last year’s model.
All in all, you may count on familiar design characteristics. This definitely isn’t the sportiest mid-size crossover on the market. Still, the ride is composed enough to satisfy most drivers. Also, we like its spacious and comfortable cabin, which also offers plenty of cargo space. When it comes to things that could be better, we would like to see a more powerful engine option, while cabin materials aren’t as nice as those found in German rivals.
2022 Cadillac XT6 Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 doesn’t bring any particular changes. That was pretty much expected, considering that this is still a pretty fresh model. It rides on GM’s familiar C1 platform and shares most parts with models like GMC Acadia. The ride quality is on a firm side, though far from too rough.
For the next year, the company brings an interesting novelty. The Sport trim gets new Brembo performance brakes with red calipers.
The visual appearance remains the same and that’s definitely not a bad thing. This SUV takes a lot of inspiration from the Escala concept and generally looks very fresh and attractive. We don’t expect to see bigger changes in the next few years and even if a mid-cycle refresh occurs in the future, we should see nothing more than subtle changes.
Once again, there are no new things to talk about. The 2022 Cadillac XT6 continues with a familiar interior layout, which is generally good but has a few drawbacks. The dashboard design looks nice but there are few areas with materials that aren’t typical for the premium segment. Most rivals look more upscale from the inside.
On the other side, there is really nothing to complain about when it comes to the interior space and overall functionality. The XT6 comes standard with three rows of seats and even the third row can accommodate adults on shorter trips. The first row is very generous with space and also offers a pretty good driving position.
The cargo area offers above-average ratings for the class. You may count on about 12.6 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 43.1 cubic feet behind the second row, and 78.7 cubic feet behind the first row. Also, the power liftgate is part of the standard equipment.
As we already mentioned, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 brings a couple of new standard safety features, such as blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert. The list of standard driver aids also includes lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera. Additionally, you can get things like a surround-view parking camera system, a night vision camera, adaptive cruise control, reverse automatic emergency braking, parallel and perpendicular park assist etc.
When it comes to tech features, base models include an 8-inch touch screen, six USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, an eight-speaker Bose stereo, satellite radio, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, tri-zone climate control, keyless entry etc. Additionally, you can get an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless device charging, navigation, a 14-speaker Bose stereo, and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual displays.
2022 Cadillac XT6 Engines
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 continues with two familiar engine options in the offer. Base models are equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 237 horsepower. It’s a pretty decent hauler but we have no doubt that the optional V6 is a much better choice, even though it’s thirstier. It puts out 310 horsepower and provides notably better driving dynamics. Both engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a decent job, even though it can hesitate sometimes with downshifts.
The base engine returns around 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which are good ratings for the segment. The optional V6 offers slightly lower ratings, 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
2022 Cadillac XT6 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Cadillac XT6 will hit the market in the last quarter of the year. The starting price should go around 49.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Lincoln Aviator, Infiniti QX60 etc.
