2022 Chevy Equinox Gets New Styling and Updated Infotainment System

The much-awaited, facelifted version of the popular compact crossover is finally about to arrive. Initially, the plan was to offer this refreshed model as the 2021 model year but the Coronavirus outbreak delayed its launch for another year. So, despite that this model was presented way back at the 2020 Chicago car show, it will come only this summer, as the 2022 Chevy Equinox. The good thing about all this is that we already know what the new model is going to look like.

Of course, the focus will be on the styling, which will include a completely new front face. The new model will look more appealing, while we are also about to see the new RS trim, which will bring a little bit sportier stance to this model. On the other side, the mechanical aspect, as well as the engine lineup, is about to remain the same. We expect to see 2022 Chevy Equinox this summer.

2022 Chevy Equinox Facelift

The current generation has been around for about four years, so this facelift seems pretty much needed. Despite that sales numbers are still pretty good, the competition in this segment is getting harder every year, so this visual update will definitely be very helpful in terms of keeping the Equinox looks fresh.

The changes for the 2022 Chevy Equinox are rather familiar. We have already seen the updated model, which brings most of the novelties to the front. First of all, there is a new grill, in a combination with new headlights, all designed after Chevy’s new design language, introduced with Chevy Blazer. Of course, the bumper has been revised as well, in order to follow other styling changes. On the other side, the rear end doesn’t come with such massive changes, but you can notice a couple of tweaks, in terms of new taillights, slightly revised tailgate etc.

Of course, we also count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new color options, new wheels and similar things.

Interior

Interior changes won’t be that big. Moreover, most of the things are about to remain the same, including the dashboard. Practically, the only major thing to come is actually an updated infotainment system. The screen keeps the same size but the system now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.

Other than that, the dashboard keeps the same overall shape. We may see a little bit finer materials, as well as new color schemes, but the overall shape will remain the same. This crossover features okay interior quality, which isn’t that bad, but isn’t spectacular either. A lot of rivals look more upscale on the inside.

On the other side, there is nothing to complain about in terms of the passenger space and, of course, the 2022 Chevy Equinox will carry on in the same way. You may count on two spacious, adult-friendly rows of seats, while we also like the driving position, which allows good visibility in all directions. Of course, the cargo area will also remain the same. You may count on about 30 cubic feet behind the second row and 64 cubic feet of the total volume. Compared to rivals, these are quite typical numbers for the class.

2022 Chevy Equinox RS

One of the biggest novelties to come with this facelift is a new trim level called the RS. Compared to standard models, it will come with several exclusive details, mostly in terms of aesthetics. For example, you may count on unique 19-inch wheels, as well as on a blacked exterior, which will make this crossover look sportier. On the inside, you may count on black upholstery, unique red stitching, different gear shifter etc.

2022 Chevy Equinox Engines

Things under the hood are about to remain the same. The diesel version has been discontinued recently, so there are two gasoline units in the offer. The base one is a 1.5-liter unit, which puts out around 170 horsepower. It’s more than okay for daily commuting and should satisfy most buyers. On the other side, more ambitious drivers may pick a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 235 horsepower, which offers notably better dynamics.

The base engine comes in pair with a six-speed automatic transmission and returns around 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The bigger and more powerful engine is also thirstier and you may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Also, this one uses a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Release Date and Price

The 2022 Chevy Equinox should hit the market this summer and we don’t expect bigger changes in price. So, base models should go around 25.000 dollars, while key competitors will be models like Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 etc.
