2022 Chevy Traverse Facelift: Release date, Colors, Interior, Price, Redline, RS

The segment of three-row crossovers is pretty tough. For many mainstream brands, it is also a matter of prestige. While some manufacturers tend to make their models more luxurious, Chevy likes to keep things simple and functional. This SUV isn’t as flashy as models like Hyundai Palisade or Mazda CX-9. However, it has something that most rivals don’t have, a tremendous amount of cargo space and a third row that is actually quite useful. A great thing to know is that the 2022 Chevy Traverse will become even better, considering that the mid-cycle refresh is on the way.

This update was originally planned for the 2021 model year. However, GM decided to hold on for a bit, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The new model is finally on the way and it will hit the market this summer. Among novelties, you will find a new exterior design, interior changes, new safety features and many more.

2022 Chevy Traverse Redesign

In terms of the overall design, the biggest change for the 2022 Chevy Traverse is a new styling. Compared to the initial version of the current generation, the new model looks way better. Of course, most of the changes came upfront. There, you can notice a completely new face, which is highlighted by details like narrower headlights, more prominent grille, more aggressive bumper etc. All these parts take a lot of inspiration from the two-row Blazer, though Traverse has definitely kept a lot of its own identity. Of course, there are also other typical mid-cycle updates, such as new color options, wheel designs etc.

On the other side, the overall layout remains the same. You may count on a familiar shape, as well as on pretty much the same mechanics. We are talking about a stretched version of a familiar C1 platform, which features around 121 inches in wheelbase. Such a long wheelbase makes Traverse one of the biggest models in the class. That’s particularly important in terms of the interior space and we will get there in a moment.

Interior

When it comes to the 2022 Chevy Traverse interior, there are few interesting novelties as well. Although they are not as massive as those on the outside, they are still pretty nice. The first thing you’ll notice is new upholstery. It looks nicer than before and makes the cabin feel more upscale. Another nice novelty is the addition of an 8-inch digital screen on the instrument cluster.

As we already mentioned, the long wheelbase ensures plenty of space for the passengers. Adults can comfortably accommodate in all three rows, and that isn’t something you usually get from mid-size crossovers. Besides plenty of space for passengers, you may also count on a decent amount of cargo space. There are 23 cubic feet of room behind the third row of seats, 57.8 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded, and 98.2 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. While that’s above-average for the class, models like Honda Pilot still offer more cargo room.

Features

When it comes to novelties in terms of standard equipment, we’ve already mentioned the new digital screen on the infotainment system. Among additions to the list of standard features, you will also find a plethora of new safety systems, such as automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlamps. The list of standard safety systems also includes goodies like a rear-seat reminder, a buckle-up reminder, a rearview camera.

When it comes to tech goodies, all models will come standard with things like tri-zone climate control, a 7-inch touch screen, six USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

2022 Chevy Traverse Engine and Performance

The 2022 Chevy Traverse comes with numerous changes but things under the hood will remain untouched. This means you may count on a good-old 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower. The engine has plenty of power to move this large SUV with ease and driving dynamics are actually more than decent. At the same time, the cabin is pretty quiet and everything seems pretty refined.

The engine comes in pair with a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty fine job as well. When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which is quite typical for the class. Of course, AWD models are slightly thirstier.

2022 Chevy Traverse Release Date and Price

Due to the mid-cycle update, the 2022 Chevy Traverse will come notably earlier than usual. We expect to see it in showrooms already in summer. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 32.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors are models like Honda Pilot, VW Atlas, Kia Telluride etc.
