2022 GMC Acadia Preview: Denali, AT4, Release date, Interior, Colors, Price

GM decided to make a few changes to the next year’s Acadia. The biggest one is the new trim level organization. The base version has been dropped from the offer, along with its base naturally-aspirated engine. Other than that, things are pretty much the same. The overall design is largely the same as in the initial model, which was introduced four years ago. On the other hand, we’ve seen a couple of nice styling changes meanwhile. The 2022 GMC Acadia won’t feature any of them.

So, what you can expect from the next year’s model is a familiar layout, which still has a lot of good things to offer. This SUV looks attractive and also comes with two capable engine options on offer. Furthermore, the ride is smooth, while the list of standard safety features is pretty long.

We expect that the 2022 GMC Acadia will hit the market this fall.

2022 GMC Acadia Redesign

After the last year’s refresh, we have no doubt that the 2022 GMC Acadia will continue with more important changes. The 2020 model has brought new styling, along with other novelties and we believe that bigger changes won’t occur before the complete redesign. The current model follows the brand’s latest design language, characterized by bold headlights and grille, inspired by pickups like Sierra and Canyon. Still, there is always a chance to see minor updates, such as new color options.

The mechanical aspect of the SUV hasn’t changed much since the initial launch. This model rides on the company’s familiar C1 platform, sharing most of the parts with Cadillac XT6 and Chevy Traverse. This includes the same overall layout, with standard front-wheel drive and a relatively soft suspension setup. The ride is smooth but uninspiring handling is what you get in return.

Interior

On the inside, the Acadia is a mixed bag. When it comes to interior quality, you can find both high-quality and low-rent materials, a combination of soft-touch surfaces and cheap plastics. The overall look seems good, but many rivals look more upscale from the inside, especially if we compare Acadia with models like Hyundai Palisade, Mazda CX-9 etc.

2022 GMC Acadia Interior

The best word to describe the amount of interior space is – sufficient. This model is nowhere near Chevy Traverse regarding cabin room, but still offers enough room to accommodate three rows of seats. Adult passengers can fit the first two rows with ease, while the third row is best to be left for kids. Still, that shouldn’t be taken as a drawback, as tight third rows are typical for this segment.

You may count on about 12.8 cubic feet behind the third row, as well as on 41.7 cubic feet behind the second. The overall cargo volume goes around 79 cubic feet. All three ratings are typical for the class.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, even the base 2022 GMC Acadia will come with a long list of standard equipment. You may count on goodies like tri-zone climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, five USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Among upgrades, you will find options like a sunroof, wireless device charging, navigation, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

This SUV also comes with lots of standard safety features. There are things like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, a rear-seat reminder, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring with lane change alert. Additionally, you can get goodies like a head-up display, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, Rear Camera Mirror, a surround-view parking camera system, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning etc.

2022 GMC Acadia Engine

As we’ve just mentioned, the biggest novelty for the 2022 GMC Acadia is that the base 2.5-liter inline-four is no longer available. Standard models now come equipped with a

2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty enough for a convenient ride. If you’re looking for something more capable, there is also a well-known 3.6-liter V6, with 310 horses.

Both engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty decent job. When it comes to fuel economy, the turbo-four returns around 22/29 mpg city/highway, while the V6 is good for about 19/26.

2022 GMC Acadia Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2022 GMC Acadia will hit the market this fall. Considering that the 2.5-liter engine is no more available, the starting price will be much higher. According to the latest reports, base models will go around 35.000 dollars. When it comes to the competition, some of the models that come to mind are Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot etc.
