2022 Honda CR-V Preview: Hybrid, Release date, Price, Specs

The well-known SUV has been around for more than 25 years and it has always been known for a great combination of practicality and engineering. The current, fifth-generation model is no exception and even though it will end its production cycle soon, it is still one of the class leaders. We’ve already spotted the next-generation model, which will probably hit the market as the 2023 model. That’s why it’s no surprise that the 2022 Honda CR-V comes without any notable changes.

You may count on a familiar design, which still has a lot of great things to offer. This isn’t the most exciting vehicle to drive but comes with one of the most spacious cabins in the class, whether it’s about passenger or cargo space. We like its engine very much too, as well as its well-built interior. Also, the list of standard and available features meet today’s industry standards.

2022 Honda CR-V Redesign

Design-wise, the 2022 Honda CR-V comes without changes, as we already mentioned. The current generation has been around since 2016 and not many things have changed since then. We saw a few styling tweaks a few years ago but that’s still the same vehicle we’ve seen at the time of initial launch.

Besides the styling, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle remained the same as well. The current model features nearly 105 inches in the wheelbase, which isn’t too much by today’s standards. However, the chassis and suspension setup are so good that the car rides with ease. The comfort is at a pretty high level but doesn’t sacrifices handling too much. Models like Mazda CX-5 and Ford Escape offer more direct handling and less body roll, but you will definitely like how the CR-V rides.

Interior

This aspect represents Honda’s philosophy at its best. The cabin doesn’t look flashy, but the overall quality is actually pretty impressive. Simply, this model is more about functionality than style but to be honest, we do like the conservative approach, especially on the dashboard. It looks pretty well, especially in a combination with quality materials and very good build quality.

The amount of passenger space is impressive. Five adults can fit inside with ease. Even the middle passenger in the back won’t have too much trouble, as there is almost no center tunnel. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is excellent. The visibility is good in most directions, though rear pillars are a little bit thicker compared to most rivals.

The cargo area is another strong point of this crossover. You may count on about 39.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 75.8 cubic feet with the second row folded. That’s still one of the highest ratings in the segment.

Features

As the 2022 Honda CR-V is about to represent the final production year of the generation, we have no doubt it won’t bring any particular novelty to the list of standard and available equipment. Things should remain pretty much the same as in the current model, which comes standard with goodies like automatic climate control, a 5-inch display, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Fortunately, there are many upgrades to get, starting from tech goodies like a 7-inch touch- screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, an additional front USB port, two rear USB ports, an eight-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, navigation, and a nine-speaker premium stereo. You can also get things like dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, remote start, proximity keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and interior ambient lighting.

When it comes to safety features, all models will come standard with goodies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera.

2022 Honda CR-V Engines

Under the hood, the 2022 Honda CR-V will continue with a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 190 horsepower. That’s enough power to provide quite decent performance, while the CVT gearbox also does a surprisingly good job. Driving dynamics are pretty good, while the fuel economy is excellent. You may count on about 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

Of course, there is also a hybrid version, which uses the same system as the Accord, with a total output of 212 horsepower. It works pretty well, while the fuel economy is respectable too. This one returns around 40 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.
