The latest reports suggest that Mazda won’t be launching new models before next year when we are about to see a completely new, RWD platform. This clearly indicates that the company’s flagship model, the CX-9 will continue in the same way. The current generation has been around for about five years but despite the age, it is still one of the best mid-size SUVs around, probably the best if you don’t need that much interior space. Therefore, we believe that the 2022 Mazda CX-9 could bring nothing but minor updates, in terms of new standard features and maybe some new color options.

2022 Mazda CX-9 Redesign
This could be one of the last model years of the current generation, so we presume there won’t be bigger changes, especially not in terms of base design characteristics. The driving position is great, not particularly high but high enough to ensure good visibility. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the second row accommodates adults with ease too. On the other side, the third row is tight, not typically tight for the segment but rather really cramped. The same story is with the cargo area, which offers below-average numbers for the segment. You may count on 14.4 cubic feet of space with all the seats up, 38.2 cubic feet behind the second row, and a total of 71.2 cubic feet.
Features
A couple of additions to the list of standard equipment are possible, but we are pretty sure that most of the things will remain the same. Simply, the current model already comes equipped pretty well. The list of standard features includes goodies like a 10.3-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, push-button start, tri-zone climate control etc. Additionally, you can get things like a moonroof, a navigation system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless device charging, four more USB ports, satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Bose stereo.

So, we don’t expect bigger changes in this aspect either.
2022 Mazda CX-9 Engines
Things under the hood definitely won’t change. The 2022 Mazda CX-9 will continue with a well-known 2.5-liter turbo-four, which puts around 227 horsepower. If you put premium gasoline in it, you may count on 250 horsepower and a pretty impressive 320 pound-feet of max torque. That’s on par with any diesel, so it’s no wonder that driving dynamics are great in the whole rev range, even better compared to most V6 rivals. The engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which does a fine job as well.
