There are several reasons to believe that the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek will come without any particular change. First of all, the last year’s refresh has brought some pretty interesting novelties. We saw an updated styling, a new engine and more features. Also, keep in mind that Subaru’s usual production cycle lasts five years and that the next year will be the fifth of the current generation. Simply, it’s hard to expect novelties for the final production year.
Therefore, you may count on familiar design characteristics, on a crossover that has so many good things to offer. There are three powertrain options available, while we really like the fact that fuel economy is very good and that the suspension setup provides a very balanced ride. Furthermore, the cabin looks really good, while the list of standard equipment is pretty long, considering the segment standards.
As there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Redesign
As we already mentioned, the last year’s model has brought some interesting updates. We saw a new front end, with a new grille and bumper, as well as new color options and wheel designs. Considering all this, it’s hard to believe that the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek could bring anything new. The current model already looks pretty attractive and it’s aging pretty well.
What we particularly like about this crossover are mechanics. Of course, there is Subaru’s excellent AWD system, but the handling is pretty engaging as well. At the same time, the suspension setup is pretty impressive and allows this crossover to deal with road imperfections in a pretty nice fashion. Also, we’ve noticed that there is less body roll compared to most rivals in the class.
We really like the cabin of this crossover. It is spacious, well built and well equipped. When it comes to the interior quality, you can notice a lot of soft-touch surfaces and although rivals like Mazda CX-3 look even more impressive, there is really nothing to complain about. Everything is fitter perfectly, while the dashboard shape also looks very appealing.
Still, the best thing about this cabin is the amount of space you get. Compared to most rivals in the class, this one offers more passenger room. Furthermore, the driving position is high and provides excellent visibility in all directions. The second row also accommodates adults with ease.
When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on quite respectable ratings. There are 20.8 cubic feet behind the second row. Fold these seats down and you will get more than 55 cubes. Both numbers are above-average for the class.
When it comes to standard equipment, we believe that most of the things will remain the same as in the current model. That’s not bad at all, considering that there are standard features like automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Additionally, you can get things like keyless entry, moonroof, an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, three additional USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a six- or eight-speaker stereo.
The same thing is with safety features. While the base model comes with a rearview camera only, there is a whole bunch of available features. Some of the highlights are things like emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Engines
Once again, things won’t change. Base models will continue with a good-old 2.0-liter boxer engine, which is good for 152 horsepower. While that isn’t a particularly great number, it seems quite enough for daily commuting. A great thing about this engine is that it can also be paired with a manual transmission, besides the CVT.
If you’re looking for something peppier, there is a recently-added 2.5-liter engine, which is good for 182 horses. It provides notably better dynamics, though it can only with CVT. Both engines come standard with AWD. The base engine returns 28 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, while the optional unit is good for 27/34 city/mpg. Those are impressive ratings, considering the standard AWD.
Finally, there is a hybrid version. The system is based on a 2.0-liter engine and provides a total output of 148 horsepower. Besides decent acceleration, it also offers 17 miles of all-electric range, while fuel economy goes around 35 mpg combined.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Release Date and Price
We don’t expect that the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek will come any earlier than usual. It should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with the starting price of around 23.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors are models like Toyota C-HR, Mazda CX-3 etc.
