The legendary Outback is coming with one big novelty for the next year. Just like some other models in the lineup, this crossover will also come in a special version called Wilderness. This particular variant of the 2022 Subaru Outback will feature a lot of exclusive features, including improved off-road performance, enhanced styling and more. On the other hand, standard models will continue in the same way, without more important updates.
So, if you’re rather interested in a regular version of this legend, you may count on familiar characteristics. This wagon/crossover has so many good things to offer, starting from a spacious and practical cabin, excellent AWD system and a lot list of features. The optional engine is really powerful, while the high ground clearance makes it extremely versatile. Practically, the only major complaint goes to the base engine, which is underpowered.
We expect to see the 2022 Subaru Outback this fall.
2022 Subaru Outback Redesign
As we already mentioned, the biggest novelty for the next year will be the introduction of the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition. Compared to standard models, it will come with lots of upgrades. Of course, the styling changes are the most prominent. There is a lot of details that accentuate the model’s off-road character, starting from a higher ground clearance, new wheels, lots of low-impact protection and similar things. However, this model doesn’t feature cosmetical changes only. We’ve just mentioned the ground clearance, which goes up to a pretty impressive 9.5 inches. Furthermore, the AWD system has been revised and comes with new drive modes. Also, there is a new gearing ratio, which also improves off-road capability significantly.
On the other hand, standard models will continue in the same way, with familiar styling and mechanics. While the new Wilderness is a pretty capable off-roader, standard models will continue as super-versatile vehicles that offer a perfect balance between off- and on-road capabilities, between performance and practicality.
On the inside, the new Wilderness Edition will come with a couple of exclusive details, such as yellow accents on the steering wheel and gear shifter. Also, there are some new materials and color combinations. On the other side, the overall cabin layout remains the same in all models. This Subaru looks really nice from the inside. We like the materials and aesthetics, while the build quality is really good.
As always, the Outback is a super-practical vehicle and the 2022 Subaru Outback will continue in the same way. It will come with two quite spacious rows of seats, which accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the driving position is pretty high and provides excellent visibility in all directions.
The cargo area offers around 32.5 cubic feet of space behind the second-row seats and 75.7 cubic feet in total, which is a pretty impressive rating for a vehicle like this and on par with class-leading compact crossovers like Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester etc.
The exact list of features for the new Wilderness Edition is yet to come. On the other hand, we expect that the rest of the lineup will continue in the same way. Therefore, base models should come equipped with goodies like two 7-inch touch screens, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. In higher trim levels, you may count on a large 11.6-inch touch screen, two rear USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, HD Radio, navigation, wireless device charging, a Rockford Fosgate stereo, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo, as well as on dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and a moonroof.
When it comes to safety, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera, a rear-seat reminder, a seat belt warning light and chime for rear-seat-passengers, steering-responsive automatic LED high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. We don’t expect bigger changes for the next year. This means the list of options should include goodies like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, driver distraction monitoring, and a front-view camera.
2022 Subaru Outback Engine
The 2022 Subaru Outback will continue with two familiar engine options in the offer. Base models will continue to use a 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out around 182 horsepower. The upgrade will be available in the form of a capable 2.4-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines come in pair with a CVT gearbox. Of course, all-wheel drive is standard.
The new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness will come standard with the turbo-four engine.
2022 Subaru Outback Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 Subaru Outback this fall, with a starting price of around 28.000 dollars. When it comes to the new Wilderness Edition, the starting price will go around 38.000 dollars.
