The legendary Outback is coming with one big novelty for the next year. Just like some other models in the lineup, this crossover will also come in a special version called Wilderness. Furthermore, the AWD system has been revised and comes with new drive modes. Also, there is a new gearing ratio, which also improves off-road capability significantly.
On the other hand, standard models will continue in the same way, with familiar styling and mechanics. While the new Wilderness is a pretty capable off-roader, standard models will continue as super-versatile vehicles that offer a perfect balance between off- and on-road capabilities, between performance and practicality.
Interior
On the inside, the new Wilderness Edition will come with a couple of exclusive details, such as yellow accents on the steering wheel and gear shifter. Also, there are some new materials and color combinations. On the other side, the overall cabin layout remains the same in all models. This Subaru looks really nice from the inside. We like the materials and aesthetics, while the build quality is really good.
As always, the Outback is a super-practical vehicle and the 2022 Subaru Outback will continue in the same way. It will come with two quite spacious rows of seats, which accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the driving position is pretty high and provides excellent visibility in all directions.

When it comes to safety, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera, a rear-seat reminder, a seat belt warning light and chime for rear-seat-passengers, steering-responsive automatic LED high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. We don’t expect bigger changes for the next year. This means the list of options should include goodies like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, driver distraction monitoring, and a front-view camera.
2022 Subaru Outback Engine
The 2022 Subaru Outback will continue with two familiar engine options in the offer. Base models will continue to use a 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out around 182 horsepower. The upgrade will be available in the form of a capable 2.4-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines come in pair with a CVT gearbox. Of course, all-wheel drive is standard.
