2022 Volvo XC60 Facelift, Redesign, Release Date, Recharge, Price

The current generation of Volvo’s compact crossover has been around for about four years. Considering that the competition is pretty tough, this seems like a perfect time for updates. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the 2022 Volvo XC60 is coming with a plethora of changes. This is a typical mid-cycle update, which brings new styling details primarily. However, there are also changes on the inside, especially in terms of a new infotainment system. Still, the overall layout remains the same.

All this means that you may count on familiar characteristics. This is one of the best compact luxury crossovers on the market, which has a lot of great things to offer. It is stylish and features exceptional interior quality. Furthermore, we like the efficient powertrains and a long list of driver-assistance features.

Of course, the XC60 isn’t without flaws. We don’t like its small cargo area, while the hybrid powertrain isn’t as refined as some rivals. We expect to see the 2022 Volvo XC60 on sale this summer.

2022 Volvo XC60 Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2022 Volvo XC60 has remained the same. We are talking about a familiar layout, which has been around for about four years. Like other Volvo models, this one is also built around a modular SPA platform, which offers a lot of advanced technologies and design solutions. We particularly like the ride quality, which is on a sweet spot between being comfortable and sporty.

While the mechanical aspect of the vehicle remains the same, there are a plethora of new styling details. Of course, the focus was on the front end, which includes various updates compared to the last year’s model. First of all, there is a new grille, which looks more prominent. Also, you can notice a new bumper, with a more aggressive shape, new air intakes etc. Of course, there are also more typical mid-cycle updates, such as new color options, new wheel designs etc.

Interior

On the inside, you won’t notice too many changes. Moreover, the overall cabin layout definitely remained the same, which isn’t a bad thing at all. This crossover has always been characterized by exceptional quality, which offers super-fine materials, excellent fit and finish etc. For this year, the biggest novelty is the introduction of City Weave cloth upholstery, which is available in this model for the first time.

More importantly, there is a new infotainment system. While the infotainment screen remains pretty much the same, there is completely new software, the same one found in the XC40 Recharge. It offers a whole new set of options, easier navigation and it’s generally easier to use. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as well as Wi-Fi hotspot.

2022 Volvo XC60 Interior

As we’ve just mentioned, the overall layout has remained the same. Therefore, you may count on the same amount of passenger and cargo space. With nearly 113 inches in wheelbase, this is one of the biggest compact crossovers on the market. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the amount of legroom is very generous in both rows. This crossover accommodates five adults with ease. However, the cargo area isn’t that spacious. You may count on about 22.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 63.3 cubic feet, which is about average for a compact luxury SUV.

2022 Volvo XC60 Engines

Things under the hood will definitely remain the same. Therefore, base models will continue with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower. That’s enough for a convenient ride, while you may also count on a typical fuel economy for the class. In numbers, it goes around 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

If you prefer something peppier, the same engine is available with an additional supercharger. So, the max output goes up to 316 horsepower and driving dynamics are notably better. However, this powertrain is also thirstier and you get around 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Finally, there is the T8 plug-in hybrid version, based on the same engine. The total output goes up to 400 horsepower, which ensures pretty respectable performances. However, the system isn’t as refined as the one in RX 450h, for example. On the other side, fuel economy is decent and goes around 27 mpg in a combined ride.
All models come with 8-speed automatic transmission.
