2023 Acura RDX Preview: Hybrid, Changes, Release Date, Type S, Colors

In the world of compact luxury crossovers, the RDX has always been one of the most rational choices. With a perfect mix of premium features and affordability, it’s also been one of the most popular models in its class. The current generation was introduced in 2019 and we already saw a mid-cycle update for the 2022 model year. This update brought a lot of interesting novelties and we do not doubt that the 2023 Acura RDX will be a typical carryover model, which brings no more than minor changes.

You may count on a crossover that has so many great things to offer. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is Honda’s engineering, which includes some of the best powertrains in the business. The chassis setup is also pretty impressive, which makes the RDX one of the most athletic models in the class. Furthermore, you may count on a high-quality cabin, lots of standard equipment, generous cargo area etc.

As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Acura RDX will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Acura RDX Redesign

The overall design definitely won’t change and the 2023 Acura RDX will continue with familiar characteristics. This includes the novelties that were introduced with the 2022 refresh as well. For that occasion, we saw things like a new grille, a new front bumper with larger air intakes etc. The rear end came with a new bumper as well, while you can also notice new, rectangular exhaust pipes. Finally, we saw a couple of new color options – Liquid Carbon Metallic and Phantom Violet Pearl. So, we may presume that the 2023 Acura RDX may come with some new color options on the offer as well.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle definitely won’t change. The next year’s RDX will carry on in the same way, with the same setup, which offers a quite sporty handling, despite the crossover body. This is certainly one of the most athletic models in the class, especially if you pick a version with the company’s well-known SH-AWD system.

Interior

On the other hand, the recent update hasn’t brought too many changes on the inside. Most of the things remained the same and we are pretty sure that the 2023 Acura RDX will continue in the same way. The overall interior quality is pretty good. The materials are fine, while attention to detail is pretty decent as well. One of the rare updates we saw with the recent update was improved sound insulation, so the RDX is now quieter than before.

Of course, the overall layout remained the same. This compact crossover comes with a couple of rows of seats and both of them accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the front seats offer a decent level of comfort and support. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 29.5 cubic feet behind the second row, while the total cargo capacity goes up to nearly 59 cubic feet. Those are pretty good ratings for the segment.

Features

Of course, the next year’s model could come with some new standard features but most of the things should remain the same. Most of the things should remain the same as in the current model, which already offers a lot of standard equipment. All models should come standard with a 10.2-inch display, Amazon Alexa, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a touchpad controller, Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio, a nine-speaker sound system, a Wi-Fi hot spot, three USB ports, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, panoramic moonroof etc.

Expect to find a lot of options as well. Some of the highlights should be things like remote start, GPS-linked climate control, a navigation system, wireless device charging, and a 12- or 16-speaker stereo.

The same thing refers to safety. So, even base models should come with a full load of driver-assistance features. Some of the highlights are things like a rearview camera, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams etc.

2023 Acura RDX Engine

We expect that the 2023 Acura RDX will continue with a single-engine option on the offer. That’s a well-known 2.0-liter turbo-four, with a max output of 272 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty fine job too. The driving dynamics are pretty good, while the whole setup seems very refined.

Standard models come with front-wheel drive, while you can also opt for the SH-AWD system as well. When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which is about average for the segment. Of course, models with all-wheel drive are slightly thirstier.
