Despite the introduction of the new Encore GX, the original Encore remains in production. That SUV was introduced way back in 2012 and despite the decade-long production, it looks like the company doesn’t want to discontinue it. According to the latest reports, the 2023 Buick Encore will be offered as well and might be the last production year, even though that’s very questionable. In any case, we don’t believe that the next year’s model could bring too many changes.
Therefore, you may count on familiar design characteristics and features. The next year’s model will continue to deliver a comfortable ride, great manoeuvrability and intuitive infotainment controls. However, it will have a couple of drawbacks, which is no wonder considering the model’s age. Some of the main complaints go to things like the lack of modern features, high starting price etc.
In any case, we expect that the 2023 Buick Encore will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2023 Buick Encore Design
Design-wise, the 2023 Buick Encore will continue in the same way. This model has been around for a full decade, so it’s no wonder it’s based on a good-old Gamma II platform, the same one that underpins Chevy Trax. Despite that, the Encore offers a surprisingly smooth ride, especially for this segment. It is also quite manoeuvrable, due to its small dimensions, though we can’t say it’s particularly engaging and fun to drive.
Visually, we are about to see a familiar styling, which was updated in 2017. Since then, we haven’t seen too many changes but despite that, the front end still looks very nice. This is an attractive subcompact crossover, with lots of aggressive lines and sharp edges, which perfectly suits the segment.
The 2017 update also brought interior updates, so the cabin looks pretty decent. It features a nicely designed dashboard, which combines quality materials with nice aesthetics. As a package, the dash looks good, though we have noticed a fair amount of hard-touch materials in lower areas. The same is with the rest of the cabin, which combines high-quality and low-rent materials. Still, that shouldn’t be taken as a big drawback, considering that that’s a typical thing for the segment.
Considering that the wheelbase is good for just 100.6 inches, it’s obvious that the Encore can’t be too generous with space. However, the amount of passenger space is surprisingly good, especially if at the front. The second row also accommodates adults pretty well. The cargo area is also pretty much average for the segment, as it offers around 18.8 cubic feet of cargo room behind the back row and 48.4 cubic feet.
We don’t believe that the 2023 Buick Encore could bring bigger changes in this aspect. Therefore, base models should carry on with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, Bluetooth, voice recognition, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Siri Eyes Free, proximity keyless entry and push-button start.
The same is with safety features, where a rearview camera is the only thing you get as a part of standard equipment. On the other hand, you can opt for things like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rain-sensing windshield wipers, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, lane departure warning etc.
2023 Buick Encore Engine
Under the hood, the 2023 Buick Encore will continue with a good-old 1.4-liter turbo-four. This engine receive a nice power upgrade, so the max output now goes up to 155 horsepower, which is 17hp more compared to the previous version of the engine.
The engine offers decent driving dynamics, while the 6-speed automatic transmission does a pretty decent job too. When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, which is about average for the segment.
2023 Buick Encore Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2023 Buick Encore sometime in the last quarter of the year, with the starting price of around 25.000 dollars.
