2023 Chevy Suburban Preview: Diesel, Price, HD

The current generation of Chevy’s legendary SUV has been around for a while and judging on the sales numbers, it looks like the company did a great job with this generation. Therefore, we presume that the 2023 Chevy Suburban, which will represent the third production year, will probably remain untouched. We expect to see a familiar design, though there’s always room for minor updates, such as new color options, more standard features etc.

We count on a familiar design. This means an SUV that offers tremendous amounts of passenger and cargo space, along with a long list of standard and available features. Furthermore, we like the wide powertrain lineup, which also includes a super-efficient diesel version.

Still, the current generation isn’t without flaws. For example, the interior quality could be better, while the model’s gigantic dimensions aren’t a great thing for maneuvering.

Considering that there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Chevy Suburban will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Chevy Suburban Design

The overall design certainly won’t change for the third production year. The 2023 Chevy Suburban will continue with a familiar layout, based on the T1 platform. The Suburban features a light and efficient chassis, while we also like the standard independent rear suspensions, which is highly beneficial in terms of handling. Also, there is a decent off-road potential. The standard Suburban features 8 inches of ground clearance, while models with the optional 10-inch suspension can go up to 10 inches. Furthermore, the Z71 trim brings a bunch of off-road upgrades, such as a two-speed transfer case, a limited-slip differential, all-terrain tires, a skid plate, and tow hooks.

Visually, the current model heavily relies on the current-generation Silverado, featuring pretty much the same front end. Of course, the 2023 Suburban should carry on in the same way, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see things like new color options, new appearance packages etc.

Interior

Although a body-on-frame SUV with decent off-road performance, the Suburban is primarily a family hauler. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the cabin is its strongest point. It features one of the biggest cabins in the class, which comes with three rows of seats and accommodates up to eight adults with ease. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is very good, both in terms of visibility and general ergonomics.

The cargo capacity is even more impressive. You may count on 41.5 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, 93.8 cubic feet with these seats folded, and 144.7 cubic feet of the total volume. The only other SUV in the class that offers such numbers is the Suburban’s corporal twin, GMC Yukon XL.

The build quality is good. The cabin looks nice and most materials are fine. Still, we have to mention that most rivals look nicer.

Features

We doubt that the 2023 Chevy Suburban could bring too many changes to the list of standard and available equipment. Most of the things should remain the same as in the current model. So, base versions will probably come equipped with goodies like tri-zone climate control, remote start, keyless entry, a 10.2-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, eight USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Among options, expect to find things like a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, nine- and 10-speaker stereos, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch touch screens.

The same thing is with safety features. So, all models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure, warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams etc. The list of options should include adaptive cruise control, head-up display, surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert etc.

2023 Chevy Suburban Engines

There is no room for surprises under the hood. The 2023 Chevy Suburban will continue with three familiar powertrain options on the offer, starting from the 5.3-liter V8 that puts out around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The optional 6.2-liter V8 is way more capable and a much better choice in our opinion. It features a max output of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, there is the 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel that puts out 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to plenty of torque, this engine feels pretty capable. At the same time, it offers impressive fuel economy that goes around 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

2023 Chevy Suburban Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Chevy Suburban will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 54.000 dollars.
