The current generation of Ford’s compact crossover still marks solid sales numbers but the competition is getting tougher every year. Also, it’s been a while since we saw a complete overhaul, so it seems like it’s time for updates. From what we know so far, the 2023 Ford Escape is about to receive a mid-cycle update. We are about to see a typical facelift, which will bring novelties all around the vehicle, as well as a couple of interesting changes on the inside. On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will probably remain the same.
So, despite the updates, the overall layout will remain the same and the Escape will continue to offer familiar characteristics. In other words, you may count on a crossover that offers the athletic handling and that is easy to drive. We also like the engine lineup, as well as a decent cargo capacity and user-friendly infotainment system.
Given the expected updates, we expect that the 2023 Ford Escape could hit the market a little bit earlier than usual.
2023 Ford Escape Redesign
The 2023 Ford Escape will receive a mid-cycle update and we expect to see a typical facelift. The focus will be on the visual update and we presume that new styling details will appear in various areas of the vehicle. Of course, most of them will come to the front end. We expect similar kinds of updates we saw in the updated Focus, which means sharper headlights with, revised grille and more aggressive front bumper. The rear end could come with a couple of tweaks too, while typical mid-cycle updates like new color options and wheels seem like a certain thing.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect will probably remain untouched. In other words, we expect to see the same chassis and suspension setup, which make this crossover one of the most engaging models in the class but also keep the comfort at a reasonable level.
If you look at the current model, probably the weakest point is the interior quality. Typically for Ford models, the materials are mostly hard plastics, while the build quality isn’t particularly impressive either. We don’t expect that this could change significantly in the 2023 Ford Escape. Still, we certainly expect to see a couple of new details that will make the cabin look more upscale. This particularly refers to tech features. We expect to see a bigger touchscreen, as well as a new, digital instrument cluster.
On the other hand, the overall cabin layout should remain pretty much the same. The 2023 Ford Escape will offer the same amount of passenger space, which is generous enough to accommodate adults in both rows of seats. Furthermore, the cargo area also offers quite respectable numbers. You may count on about 37.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 65 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. That’s pretty good for the class.
Novelties regarding the new standard and available features are something we definitely expect to see in the 2023 Ford Escape. We already mentioned the new touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Of course, a few more upgrades are possible too.
Still, keep in mind that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect, especially when it comes to available features. You can get upgrades like Wi-Fi hot spot, navigation, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, satellite radio, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, a panoramic moonroof, and automatic climate control.
The same thing goes for safety features. The current model comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rearview camera, and lane keep assist. Additionally, there are options like adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, traffic jam assists, parallel and perpendicular park assist, rear parking sensors, and a head-up display and we believe some of these could become standard.
2023 Ford Escape Engines
Things under the hood won’t change for the next year. So, the offer will start with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which puts out around 180 horsepower. For those who are looking for something peppier, there is a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 250 horsepower. Both engines come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
The other two powertrain options are hybrids, both based on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The first one, a classic hybrid, is good for about 200 horsepower and offers a pretty impressive fuel economy of around 44 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The plug-in hybrid version is good for 221 horsepower and also offers 37 miles of the all-electric range.
2023 Ford Escape Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Ford Escape will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022, with a starting price of around 27.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Chevy Equinox, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5 etc.
