2023 Ford Excursion: More Than Rumor?

The late 1990s and early 2000s were pretty interesting for the automotive industry and the original Excursion was definitely one of the reasons. Designed to be an ultimate SUV, this model was introduced in 1999, as the first and only SUV that’s based on an HD pickup. More precisely, this SUV was based on the F-250 and it was the biggest and the toughest family hauler at the time. It was in production until 2006 and since then, we are hearing rumors about its comeback. The latest ones suggest this model could come back already in the next year, as the 2023 Ford Excursion.

Of course, this is nothing more than a rumor at this point. The officials are quiet and the actual chances to see such a vehicle on the market once again are almost zero. Still, that shouldn’t stop us from speculating about the new 2023 Ford Excursion, which would certainly be one of the most interesting vehicles on the roads of North America.

2023 Ford Excursion Design

If the Blue Oval company is seriously considering this comeback, we are pretty should in which direction the revived model would go. Of course, we are talking about the same design approach, which would mean a layout that’s heavily based on Ford’s Super Duty pickups. More precisely, the 2023 Ford Excursion would share most of its parts with the F-250. The two models would share the platform and most of the mechanics, including chassis, engines etc. On the other hand, we would probably see a little bit finer suspension setup, especially at the rear end, which would provide a little bit higher level of comfort.

Exterior

In terms of size, there’s no doubt that this would be the largest SUV on the market. The original model featured over 137 inches in wheelbase, while this one could easily go all away up to 140, especially if we consider that standard full-size SUVs have grown a lot in the last 15 years. For example, the new Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon feature 134 inches in wheelbase.

When it comes to styling, we presume that the front end would take a lot of inspiration from the aforementioned pickup truck. On the other hand, the overall shape would bring a typical SUV appearance, with a long wagon-like body that clearly points out the vehicle’s utilitarian nature.

Interior

On the inside, the main characteristic of this SUV would be an impressive amount of passenger space. Due to the super-long wheelbase, this model would feature three rows of seats that are all very generous. Even the third row would be on par with the front ones, able to accommodate adult passengers with a high level of comfort. As a result, the 2023 Ford Excursion would be able to accommodate up to 8 taller passengers with ease.

When it comes to the dashboard design and overall interior aesthetics, we presume that a big part of the cabin would look the same or very similar to the F-250. This includes the dashboard as well, though we would expect to see a little bit nicer materials, more attractive color schemes and similar things. Of course, we would also count on a full load of interior features, whether it’s about tech or convenience goodies.

2023 Ford Excursion Engines

Considering that most parts would be shared with the F-250, we see no reason why things wouldn’t be the same in the case of the powertrain as well. Therefore, we would probably see three powertrain options on offer. Base models would come with a familiar 6.2-liter V8, which puts out around 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The bigger 7.3-liter V8 would be offered as well, with a max output of around 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, there is a turbodiesel version, with a super-capable 6.7-liter V8 engine, which is tuned to 475 horsepower and 1.050 pound-feet of torque.

2023 Ford Excursion Release Date and Price

The 2023 Ford Excursion is just a rumor for now and the actual chances to see it once again on the road are almost zero. Still, if this mode somehow returns, we presume that base versions would cost around 65/70.000 dollars.
