Ford’s player in the full-size segment has just been updated and after all the novelties that were introduced, we are pretty sure that the current generation still has a couple of good years before it receives a full redesign. There is a full load of novelties, starting from a new styling, new dashboard design, more tech features etc. Considering all these updates, we presume that the 2023 Ford Expedition will come without more important updates. This should be a typical carryover model, with minor tweaks like new colors and standard features only.
On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same. We are about to see an SUV that offers a spacious and well-equipped cabin, intuitive infotainment system, capable engine and great towing capacity for the class. We also like the new styling, while the biggest complaints go some low-rent materials in the cabin, as well as to the fact that range-topping versions are pretty expensive.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Ford Expedition will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2022.
2023 Ford Expedition Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 model received an update, so it’s easy to conclude that the 2023 Ford Expedition will be a typical carryover model. It will continue with the same design, which includes all the updates from the recent refresh. This particularly refers to the new styling. The front end is completely new and it comes with new headlights, a more massive grille, new bumper design – all heavily inspired by the new-generation F-150. So, the best we could see for the next year are minor updates like new color options, though we wouldn’t exclude the possibility to see a new appearance package or something like that.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the SUV hasn’t changed much since the initial launch, so the ride quality remains pretty much the same. Every Expedition comes standard with independent rear suspension and the handling is surprisingly engaging for a vehicle of this size.
The same can be said for interior design. The recent update has brought a couple of interesting updates, starting from that massive infotainment screen and a completely new dashboard layout. The new dash looks more attractive and also utilizes nicer materials. The overall cabin quality is pretty good for the segment, we would see slightly better compared to the biggest rival – Chevy Tahoe.
Another thing we like about this SUV is the cabin size. There is plenty of room on the inside, so it’s no wonder that all three rows of seats are spacious and comfortable. Even the third row accommodates adults with ease. On the other hand, the cargo area isn’t that impressive, though it’s still pretty spacious. In numbers, that would be around 21 cubic feet behind the third row, 63.6 cubic feet behind the second row and nearly 105 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
This aspect shouldn’t bring bigger changes either. All models will come standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable driver’s seat, Wi-Fi hotspot, six-speaker audio system, 12-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry etc. The list of standard features will also include safety features like automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking etc.
Among numerous upgrades, we also expect to see goodies like a 15.5-inch infotainment screen, 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, proximity keyless entry, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, rear-seat entertainment system with two screens and many more.
2023 Ford Expedition Engines
Things should remain the same under the hood too. We expect to see a familiar 3.5-liter twin-turboV6, which will come in three different output variants. Base versions will be good for about 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough to move this large SUV with convenience.
The range-topping Limited trim comes with an upgraded version of the engine, which puts out 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is the recently introduced Stealth Performance package, which comes with a max output of 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.
All models come with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to either rear or all four wheels, depending on the configuration you pick.
When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The max towing capacity goes up to 9.300 pounds.
2023 Ford Expedition Release Date and Price
The 2023 Ford Expedition shouldn’t feature any notable change, which means that the launch date will probably be scheduled for the last quarter of 2022. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 53.000 dollars.
