The current version of the legendary compact SUV has been around for a long time and it is one of the oldest models in the class. Although it still offers impressive off-road performances, along with a few other qualities, it also feels outdated in many ways, starting from the cabin design, uninspiring handling etc. That’s why we expect to see a full redesign for the next year. At this point, the officials are still quiet but many sources suggest such a scenario.
If this redesign happens, we have no doubt that the 2023 Jeep Cherokee will bring a full load of novelties. It will be built over a completely new platform and should come with new powertrain options as well. Of course, this redesign will bring new aesthetics and new technologies, while electrification should also play important role in this redesign.
At this point, it’s still early to talk about the launch date, but we presume the new model could arrive by the end of this year.
2023 Jeep Cherokee Redesign
The current generation has been around since 2013 and, logically, it feels outdated in many ways. That’s we have no doubt that the new generation is going to be built over a completely new platform. At this point, we see two possibilities for the 2023 Jeep Cherokee. The first one is to use the well-known Giorgio platform, which already underpins the new Grand Cherokee. With such a layout, the new generation would be significantly lighter, with way better driving characteristics.
The other possibility is to see benefits from the last year’s merger with PSA. This refers to PSA’s platform, which would bring a lot of new possibilities regarding electrification. We presume that the new Cherokee would share most of its parts with Peugeot 3008 in this case, which comes packed with all kinds of advanced technologies.
Exterior
Exterior design always plays a significant role in redesigns. Of course, the 2023 Jeep Cherokee won’t be an exception and we expect that the 2023 Jeep Cherokee will come with the completely new styling. This time, we don’t believe that the company will gamble, as it did with the previous generation. Before the facelift, the outgoing generation look a little bit odd by Jeep’s standard and that wasn’t accepted pretty well by Jeep’s traditional customers. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the new generation will rather feature a conservative styling, with a lot of inspiration taken from the recently redesigned bigger brother – Grand Cherokee.
We don’t expect bigger changes regarding overall proportions. The current generation measures 106.3 inches in wheelbase and is 182 inches long. Those are typical dimensions for the compact SUV segment and we don’t expect bigger changes after the redesign, as a bigger size would certainly affect the off-road potential in a negative way.
Interior
This is where we expect significant improvements. If you look at the current model’s cabin, it looks outdated, it features subpar interior quality and lacks modern features. The new generation should fix all that and come with a modern and attractive layout. We presume some inspiration will be taken from the new Grand Cherokee, which would be a fantastic thing, considering that this SUV now features one of the nicest cabins in its class, full of tech features.
Considering that we expect to see similar dimensions, we also count on a similar amount of interior space. The current generation already accommodates adults in both rows with ease, so there is no need for bigger modifications in this aspect. On the other hand, we would like to see a bigger cargo area, as the current model doesn’t stand very well in this aspect.
2023 Jeep Cherokee Engines
When it comes to powertrain, we are pretty sure that Jeep will drop the current inline-four and V6 engines. On the other hand, the recently introduced turbo-four should carry on and it will probably be the base engine in the new generation. We are talking about a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which features a max output of 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
If the new 2023 Jeep Cherokee is about to ride on PSA’s platform, it will also come with a lot of options regarding electrification. This particularly refers to the plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine and comes with one or two electric motors, depending on the configuration. The most capable variants feature a max output of 300 horsepower.
2023 Jeep Cherokee Release Date and Price
We believe that the 2023 Jeep Cherokee could arrive by the end of this year. The current model starts at around 28.000 dollars, but we believe that the new generation will cost a little bit more. Key competitors will be models like Ford Bronco Sport, Subaru Forester etc.
