2023 Lincoln Aviator Review: Changes, Specs, Features, Black Label

The Aviator is entering its fourth production year and as it was expected, it brings no significant changes. The 2023 Lincoln Aviator comes with a couple of minor updates, mostly in terms of new appearance packages. On the other hand, the overall design remains the same, whether it’s about mechanics or aesthetics.

All in all, you may count on familiar features and characteristics, despite the updates. This SUV has a lot of great things to offer, starting from a pretty capable base V6 engine and an even more capable available plug-in hybrid. Furthermore, the cabin is very luxurious and comes with a full load of standard and available equipment. The amount of passenger space is also pretty solid, while the ride is smooth and comfortable. On the other hand, the main complaints go to things like poor fuel economy, poor outward visibility and the lack of athleticism.

2023 Lincoln Aviator Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Lincoln Aviator continues mostly in the same way. There are just a couple of minor updates, mostly in terms of appearance packages, as well as in two new color options. The new paints are Diamond Red and Jewel Sandstone, while one of the packages is called the Jet package. It brings a lot of new exterior details, which are mostly about changing chrome trim with black pieces as well as adding body-colored lower cladding and wheel surrounds. Another appearance package is available with the PHEV version. It is called the Illumination package, and it includes adaptive pixel LED headlamps, special LED daytime running lights, an illuminated Lincoln logo in the grille, and LED fog lamps.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle remains the same. The Aviator rides on the CD6 platform and features standard rear-wheel drive. The suspension setup is soft and ensures a smooth and super-comfortable ride but on the other hand, the level of athleticism isn’t particularly high for the same reason.

Interior

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator brings no notable interior changes but that’s not a bad thing at all. Simply, the current cabin already looks pretty amazing, with the stylish dashboard and very nice materials. It looks very luxurious and brings pretty impressive overall build quality. Also, there is a pretty impressive amount of tech and convenience features, which look great in a combination with elegant aesthetics.

Besides the premium look, this cabin also offers a lot of interior space. The front seats are well-designed and offer great comfort. The second row is also very generous with space and accommodated three adults with ease. On the other hand, the third row isn’t as spacious as you would probably expect from a vehicle of this size. On the other hand, the cargo area is pretty impressive for the segment. In numbers, it goes around 18.3 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 41.8 cubic feet with the third row folded and 77.7 cubic feet.

Features

The 2023 model year doesn’t bring any significant changes regarding the standard and available equipment. So, base models come with goodies like a 10.1-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, a 10-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start and remote start. Among available upgrades, you can find goodies like navigation, wireless device charging, a 14- or 28-speaker Revel sound system, HD Radio, a rear-seat entertainment system with two 10-inch displays, quad-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ambient interior LED lighting, power soft-close doors, rear sunshades and a digital key.

When it comes to safety features, all models come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, parking sensors etc. Among upgrades, you can find adaptive cruise control, surround-view camera, road sign recognition, reverse automatic emergency braking, head-up display, adaptive headlights etc.

2023 Lincoln Aviator Engines

The powertrain remains the same. So, base models are equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 400 horsepower. That’s plenty enough for most drivers in terms of performance, while you may also count on relatively decent fuel economy, which goes around 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

The plug-in hybrid combines a V6 with an electric motor, for a total output of 494 horsepower. Driving dynamics are pretty impressive but on the other hand, the system isn’t particularly refined, while the fuel economy is a little bit disappointing for a hybrid, as you may count on no more than 23 mpg combined.
