The new generation of Mercedes-Benz’s compact crossover is on the way. The new model has already been presented and it is expected to arrive in North America sometime in the first half of 2023, as the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC. At this point, we already know most of the specs, including some of the powertrain options. The design is all-new, and it brings evolutionary changes mostly.

This redesign brings a lot of new technologies. The interior is completely new and it brings a full load of tech features. Furthermore, we will see a lot of interesting novelties regarding the powertrain, as the new model is about to bring a plug-in hybrid powertrain to the offers. Also, we expect that the AMG version will continue with eight cylinders.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Design

As we’ve just mentioned, this redesign brings a lot of interesting novelties. Of course, the base layout is completely new and the new model once again shares most of its parts with the C-Class sedan. The two models use the same platform and share most of the mechanics. Of course, the new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC continues in a typical SUV layout and from what we can see, there are no bigger changes regarding dimensions. On the other hand, the new chassis, along with the new suspension setup will provide an even smoother and more comfortable ride, officials claim.

When it comes to styling, you can clearly see that the German carmaker has brought evolutionary changes. It’s hard to tell bigger differences regarding aesthetics, especially when it comes to the overall shape. On the other hand, the front end follows the brand’s latest design language and features pretty much the same look as the sedan sibling.

The cabin is also completely new and once again, most things are shared with the C-Class. This particularly refers to the dashboard, which looks pretty much the same. You can notice the same design, highlighted by the new tech features, including the massive vertically-oriented infotainment screen. Of course, the instrument cluster is completely digital, while you may also count on all kinds of advanced connectivity features.

We will see further improvements regarding materials and overall build quality. As dimensions are about to remain the same, we presume that the amount of passenger space will also remain pretty similar to the previous generation. This means plenty of room in both rows of seats and the ability to accommodate five adults with ease. Details about the cargo volume are still unavailable, but we don’t expect significant differences compared to the previous model.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Engines

Big novelties are expected under the hood as well. First of all, base models will come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, which will come in pair with a 48-volt hybrid system. The total output will go around 258 and 295 pound-feet of torque. Once again, you may count on an ISG boost, providing an additional 23 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque.

We also count on a plug-in hybrid version. This powertrain will also be based on the turbo-four engine and while we still don’t know details regarding combined output, we expect that the battery capacity will be 31.2kWh, which should ensure around 75 miles of the all-electric range.

Finally, there is the AMG version and from what we can hear, the new generation will continue with eight cylinders. At this point, we don’t know if there will be any changes compared to the previous generation, which features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, with a max output of 469 and 503 horsepower, depending on the version you pick.

All units will come in pairs with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
