2023 Subaru Ascent Redesign, Wilderness, Changes, Hybrid, Release Date

The Ascent has been Subaru’s flagship model for a while and it looks it will get a little bit different treatment compared to the rest of the lineup. While most Subaru models feature a five-year production cycle, this mid-size crossover will remain in production for a little bit longer. Therefore, it’s no wonder that various reports suggest a mid-cycle refresh for the 2023 Subaru Ascent. This should be a typical facelift, with changes in various aspects. Of course, most of the novelties will be in terms of styling, though other aspects may get updated as well.

Still, keep in mind that these updates will be rather subtle, so the overall layout will remain the same. Therefore, you may count on a crossover that offers a lot of great things, starting from the spacious and comfortable cabin, lots of standard equipment, standard all-wheel drive, good fuel economy etc.

The 2023 Subaru Ascent should hit the market sometime in the second half of the year.

2023 Subaru Ascent Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Subaru Ascent is about to receive a facelift. The exact details are yet to come but we presume that most of the changes will be in terms of the styling. Typically for Subaru, they should be pretty subtle, so presume some of the modifications will be in terms of the new front fascia, new wheels, color options and similar things.

Another novelty we could see with the upcoming update could be the new Wilderness version. This trim level already debuted in models like the Outback and Forester and represent a little bit more rugged approach to their design. If this happens, we presume that the 2023 Subaru Ascent Wilderness would come with things like upgraded suspension and higher ground clearance, skid plates, exclusive styling details etc.

Interior

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see bigger changes on the inside. Most likely, the biggest change would be the introduction of a new infotainment system. Also, we could see things like new materials, color schemes etc. Other than that, things will remain the same, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The current model already looks pretty good in this aspect, with the great build quality and quality materials.

Still, Ascent’s strongest point is space and practicality. Of course, you probably know the story about cupholders, but we should also say that there is plenty of passenger space. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the second row also accommodates adults with ease. The third row is typically tight for the segment.

The cargo area offers around 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 47.5 cubic feet with the third row folded down, and 86.5 cubic feet of the total cargo volume, which is pretty good for the segment.

Features

Novelties in this aspect will certainly come. We presume that some things will be added to the list of standard equipment, whether it’s about tech or convenience features. Still, keep in mind that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. So, we probably won’t be seeing too many updates.

For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like keyless entry, tri-zone climate control, a 6.5-inch touch screen, a six-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and four USB ports. The list of options currently includes things like keyless entry, remote start, an 8-inch touch screen, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and two USB ports in the third row.

The same thing is with safety. The current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, steering-responsive LED headlights, automatic emergency braking, pre-collision throttle management etc.

2023 Subaru Ascent Engine

Things under the hood definitely won’t change. So, the 2023 Subaru Ascent will carry on with a 2.4-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty enough for good driving dynamics, though some rivals feel even sportier. The engine comes in pair with a CVT, which works surprisingly well. Of course, all-wheel drive is standard.

When it comes to fuel economy, you may count about 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. This is pretty good for the segment, especially if we consider the standard all-wheel drive.

2023 Subaru Ascent Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Subaru Ascent will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 34.000 dollars. The competition in the segment is pretty tough. Some of Ascent’s key competitors are models like VW Atlas, GMC Acadia etc.
