The current 2022 model is in the fifth production year, so it’s easy to conclude that the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is coming with big changes. More precisely, we are about to see a full redesign. Of course, we have big expectations from it, and it should bring improvements in various aspects. The company is still quiet about the new model and we don’t expect to see photos of the new model until it’s ready for production.
We expect that the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022. At this point, we know for sure that the smaller 2.0-liter engine won’t be on the offer anymore. Also, we count on evolutionary changes regarding styling, while the platform will improve torsional rigidity and make the ride even better.
2023 Subaru Crosstrek Redesign
One of the first things that come to mind about this redesign is the platform. Of course, the Japanese manufacturer will introduce a new architecture, which will also be modular and underpin a variety of Subaru’s models, starting from the upcoming all-new WRX.
Improvements from the new platform will come in various aspects. One of them is improved stiffness, which will provide better handling in corners and better overall ride quality. Of course, we also expect a new suspension setup, even though things shouldn’t be drastically different compared to the outgoing model.
Exterior Design
One thing is certain with Subaru models – there are no radical changes. The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek won’t be an exception and we have no doubt it will bring the evolution of the current design. Subtle changes are all we expect to see, with slight revision of the headlights and grille, new bumpers and similar things. Also, we presume that the Wilderness version will be offered with this small crossover as well. This particular model comes with loads of off-road upgrades, starting from higher ground clearance, upgraded tires and wheels, different bumpers for better approach and departure angles, skid plates etc.
Also, we presume that the new model could get slightly bigger than the current model. For reference, the outgoing model is good for about 105.1 inches in wheelbase, while the total length goes around 175.8 inches. The new 2023 Subaru Crosstrek should be slightly longer, and also slightly wider. All these things will make the new Crosstrek more spacious and comfortable on the inside and we will get on that in a moment.
Interior
Of course, the interior will come completely new as well. Once again, we don’t expect significant changes, as the current model already looks very nice from the inside. The dashboard looks attractive, while the materials and overall build quality are at a pretty high level as well. As you may presume, the new model would bring further improvements in this aspect, while we also count one more tech feature, starting from a bigger touchscreen and more connectivity features. Traditionally, Subaru offers a full load of safety features, so the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek shouldn’t be an exception.
As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation will probably get slightly bigger. Therefore, we might see slight improvements regarding passenger space, even though the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. The same thing goes for the cargo area. For reference, the current model is good for about 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 55.3 cubic feet. Those are good numbers for the segment.
2023 Subaru Crosstrek Engine
We expect that the Japanese manufacturer will drop the base 2.0-liter unit from the offer and that all models will come with a bigger 2.5-liter flat-four, which puts out 182 horsepower. The engine comes in pair with a CVT gearbox and offers pretty good driving dynamics. Furthermore, you may count on 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. Those are good numbers for the class, especially if we consider the standard all-wheel drive.
A hybrid version is also expected and we presume it will bring improvements over the outgoing model. To remind you, the current model features a plug-in hybrid setup, which offers a combined output of 148 horsepower. The fuel economy is pretty good and goes around 35 mpg in a combined ride. Also, the current model offers around 17 miles of the all-electric range.
2023 Subaru Crosstrek Release Date and Price
The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek should hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022. We expect a starting price of around 23.000 dollars. Some of the potential rivals are Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Chevy TraiBlazer etc.
