2023 Subaru Forester Preview: No Bigger Changes To Expect

The current generation of the legendary compact SUV has been around since 2019 and if you are familiar with Subaru’s typical production cycles, you know that this is going the be the final production year of the current model. This will be the fifth and the last year of production and if we consider the last-years mid-cycle refresh, it’s pretty obvious that bigger changes won’t happen. Instead, we are about to see a familiar design, along with familiar features on the 2023 Subaru Forester.

All this means that you may count on a crossover that still has a lot of good things to offer. Of course, the thing we like most is the legendary AWD system, as well as a pretty impressive fuel economy. Furthermore, we like the spacious and practical cabin, along with a pretty long list of standard equipment.

Considering that there are no significant changes to come for the next year, we are pretty sure that the 2023 Subaru Forester will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2022.

2023 Subaru Forester Design

As there are no significant changes to come, we know what to expect from the 2023 Subaru Forester. This SUV is compact in size and it is based on Subaru’s contemporary modular platform, which underpins most of the models in the lineup. In this particular case, what we like about the chassis setup is a pretty high ground clearance, which goes up to 9 inches in the standard model, which is more than you get from typical models in the class, such as Honda CR-V or Nissan Rogue.

The recently introduced Wilderness trim goes even further and adds 0.4 inches more to the ground clearance, and brings a lot of unique styling details that accentuate its rugged nature.

Interior

The recent update hasn’t brought too many changes to the interior design. Moreover, most of the things remained untouched and that’s not a bad thing at all, considering that the current cabin looks really nice. We like the aesthetics, as well as the fact that the build quality and materials are pretty good. Moreover, even base models come with a decent list of standard tech goodies, which makes the cabin look even more upscale.

Besides nice looks, this cabin also offers a high level of practicality. There is plenty of room in both rows of seats and adults can enjoy a comfortable ride for sure. The front seats also offer a decent level of support, while the driving position is high and ensures good visibility in all directions.

When it comes to the cargo area, the base model offers 31.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 76.1 in total. Higher trim levels are good for about 28.9 cubic feet behind the first row and 70.9 cubic feet in total. In both cases, those are excellent ratings for the class.

Features

The list of standard and available equipment is also expected to remain pretty much unchanged. So, all models should come standard with goodies like automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch touch screen, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth, and four speakers. Also, all models should come standard with safety features like a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lead vehicle start alert, and lane keep assist.

In higher trim levels, you can get a lot of upgrades. Some of the things worth mentioning are a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker audio system, a nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a Wi-Fi hot spot, two additional USB ports, and navigation, as well as safety features like blind spot monitoring, lane change assists, rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic emergency braking.

2023 Subaru Forester Engine

Things under the hood are also about to remain the same. The 2023 Subaru Forester will continue with a good-old 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine, which puts out around 182 horsepower. It comes in pair with a CVT gearbox and delivers performance that should satisfy most drivers. Of course, all-wheel drive is standard.

When it comes to fuel economy, this SUV returns 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which is pretty impressive for the class, even when compared with FWD rivals.
