2023 Subaru Outback Facelift: Changes, Wilderness, Release Date, Redesign, Hybrid

After the new Wilderness version that came with the 2022 model year, more novelties are about to come with the 2023 Subaru Outback. This will be the fourth production year of the current generation and that’s the time when Subaru usually does a mid-cycle refresh. So, the new model should bring a couple of interesting novelties, starting from an updated styling. A couple of novelties are expected on the inside as well, while the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will probably remain the same.

Despite the update, the core of the vehicle will remain unchanged, so you may count on familiar design characteristics. This wagon has so many great things to offer, starting from the standard all-wheel drive, spacious and comfortable cabin, generous cargo area, long list of standard equipment and really composed ride. On the other hand, the biggest complaint goes to the sluggish base engine.

We expect that the 2023 Subaru Outback will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022.

2023 Subaru Outback Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Subaru Outback is about to receive a mid-cycle update. So, we expect to see a couple of visual updates, particularly at the front. We presume that the new model will bring a slightly different grille design and reshaped bumper. Considering Subaru’s usual, very conservative approach to these things, we presume that all these changes will be very subtle. Also, we presume we could see a couple of updates in terms of new color options, new wheels etc.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will certainly remain the same. We are about to see the same chassis and suspension setup, which ensures pretty composed handling, which offers a pretty good balance between comfort and athleticism.

The off-road-focused Wilderness trim should carry on in the same way as well, with suspension upgrades and a couple of exclusive styling details.

Interior

The 2023 Subaru Outback update may bring a couple of updates as well. We could see things like new color schemes, materials and similar things but we are pretty sure that most of the cabin will remain the same, which is not a bad thing at all. Simply, the current model already looks great from the inside, thanks to the nice combination of attractive aesthetics, nice materials and good overall build quality.

Of course, the overall cabin layout will also remain the same. This means that you may count on plenty of passenger and cargo space. The Outback comes with two rows of seats and both offer plenty of room and comfortably accommodate adults. The cargo area offers around 32.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 75.7 cubic feet, which is pretty impressive for the segment and pretty much on par with the Subaru Forester.

Features

We might see a couple of new standard features as well. Still, we are pretty sure that most of the things will remain the same as in the current model. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like keyless entry, automatic climate control, dual 7-inch touch screens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a four-speaker stereo. Additionally, you can get upgrades like a bigger 11.6-inch touch screen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, two additional USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon stereo. The list of options also includes dual-zone climate control, proximity keyless entry, moonroof etc.

When it comes to safety features, all models should come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, head-up display etc.

2023 Subaru Outback Engines

Changes under the hood definitely won’t happen and the 2023 Subaru Outback will continue with two familiar engine options on the offer. Base versions will continue with a 2.5-liter unit, which puts out around 182 horsepower. It offers enough power for daily commuting but definitely not for anything more than that. In return, fuel economy is great. You may count on about 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

You can also get a model with a more powerful, 2.4-liter turbo-four. This one puts out around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Of course, it offers way better driving dynamics, though it’s also a little bit thirstier. You may count on about 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Both engines come in pair with a CVT, which works surprisingly well for this type of transmission.

2023 Subaru Outback Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Subaru Outback will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022. Also, we don’t expect a bigger price increase compared to the current model, which starts at around 27.000 dollars.
