2023 Toyota RAV4: Facelift, Changes, Release Date, Refresh, Hybrid

The world’s best-selling SUV doesn’t need a special introduction. For most drivers, the RAV4 meets all their demands and that’s why the Japanese manufacturer isn’t rushing with changes. The current generation has been around since 2018 and if we can trust the latest reports, the first bigger updates will come with the 2023 Toyota RAV4. Allegedly, this model is about to receive a facelift. At this point, the exact details are still unavailable, but we may presume that this will be a typical mid-cycle refresh, with styling changes mostly.

Changes in other aspects are also possible, but we are pretty sure that the overall layout will remain the same. You may count on a crossover that is spacious, well-designed and equipped with a full load of safety features. Furthermore, we like the fuel economy, whether it’s about a hybrid or a gasoline powertrain.

Considering the expected updates, the 2023 Toyota RAV4 will probably hit the market a little bit earlier than usual, but still within the second half of the year.

2023 Toyota RAV4 Design

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is expected to receive a facelift and we know what kinds of changes are usually coming with such updates. Of course, the focus will be on the styling, and we presume that most of the changes will come at the front. Still, if we consider that the current model still looks fresh and attractive, we may expect nothing more than subtle changes. This refers to things like new front fascia, revised bumper and similar things. The rear end probably won’t change too much. Of course, we should also see typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, color options etc.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle is about to remain the same. This generation of RAV4 rides on a new TNGA platform, which ensures good driving characteristics, without sacrificing comfort and convenience. The handling is surprisingly good and most drivers are satisfied with the way this SUV drives.

Interior

This update may bring few changes to the inside as well. Still, we are pretty sure that most of the things will remain the same. Simply, the current cabin already looks pretty good. We like how it looks, while the overall quality is at a pretty high level. The materials are nice, while the fit and finish are great. Still, the cabin would use additional sound insulation.

The driving position is very good, as well as the visibility. The front seats are generous with space, while the second row also accommodates adult passengers with ease. Furthermore, there is also a respectable cargo area, which offers 37.5 cubic feet behind the second row and nearly 70 cubic feet in total. That’s a little bit lower compared to Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester, but still way above average for the class.

Features

Novelties in terms of standard features are always possible but we don’t expect to see too many of them in this case. Of course, a few more tech goodies will be added to the list of standard equipment but the majority of things should remain the same. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, a USB port, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo. Additionally, you can get upgrades like an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, wireless device charging, an 11-speaker JBL sound system, four additional USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a moonroof, and a panoramic moonroof.

The same thing is with safety features. The current model already comes standard with goodies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, road sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane trace assist.

2023 Toyota RAV4 Engines

The engine lineup shouldn’t change. So, base models will probably continue with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which puts out around 203 horsepower, which is enough to satisfy most drivers. We also like the 8-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty fine job. Also, the fuel economy is pretty good and goes around 28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.

The hybrid version has always been special in this SUV and the current model is no exception. The system is based on a 2.5-liter engine and the total output goes up to 220 horsepower. At the same time, you may count on a pretty impressive fuel economy, which easily goes over 40 miles per gallon in a combined ride.

Finally, there is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime, with a plug-in hybrid setup and more than 300 horsepower.
