The current generation of Volvo’s mid-size crossover has been around since 2014 and despite the rumors, it won’t come completely redesigned for the next year. The latest reports suggest that the Swedish manufacturer won’t rush with updates and that the 2023 Volvo XC90 will remain pretty much the same. Of course, minor updates like new color options and features are always possible, but the overall layout will certainly remain the same.
All this means that you may count on familiar features. This SUV has a lot of good things to offer, despite the age. For example, we like its peppy powertrain options, as well as a pretty stylish and very luxurious cabin. Furthermore, there is a lot of passenger space, while the cargo area also offers some pretty respectable numbers. Finally, there is a long list of standard tech and safety features.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Volvo XC90 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Volvo XC90 Design
Design-wise, the 2023 Volvo XC90 will remain the same. This means that you may count on the same design that was offered nearly eight years ago, which is based on the company’s first generation of the SPA platform. Of course, we are talking about the FWD layout, while AWD models use the Haldex system.
The suspension setup is rather on the soft side and you won’t get too much athleticism from the XC90. However, even the comfort can be compromised if you pick a model with bigger wheels.
Visually, not many things have changed since the initial launch. There was a facelift a couple of years ago, but those changes were very subtle and minor tweaks mostly. Logically, the 2023 Volvo XC90 shouldn’t bring any aesthetical changes either, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see a new color option or two.
Interior
The inside of the 2023 Volvo XC90 definitely won’t change and that’s not an issue at all. Simply, we are talking about one of the nicest cabins in the segment. It comes with high-quality materials, while the build quality is excellent. Another impressive thing is the dashboard styling, which still looks fresh and very elegant. Of course, there is also a fair amount of tech features, which also have an impact on visual appeal.

The XC90 comes with three rows of seats. The first row comes with massive and super-comfortable seats, which are some of the best in the class. The second row is also very spacious and accommodates adults with ease. On the other hand, the third row is typically tight for the segment.
The cargo area is another strong point of this SUV. You may count on about 15.8 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, 41.8 cubic feet with these seats folded, and 85.7 of the total cargo volume, which is pretty impressive for a luxury mid-size crossover.
Features
Once again, we don’t believe that the 2023 XC90 could bring more important changes. Most of the things are about to remain the same, which means that base versions should come standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, wireless device charging, satellite radio, a 10-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, two USB ports, quad-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry. Among upgrades, you will find premium audio systems, rear sunshades and ambient lighting.
The same thing goes for safety features. So, base models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, road sign recognition, automatic high beams etc.
2023 Volvo XC90 Engines
The 2023 Volvo XC90 will continue with the same engines on the offer. So, base versions will come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower. While that’s enough power for most drivers, there is also a more powerful version for more ambitious buyers. This one uses the same turbo-four engine, but also features a supercharger. The max output goes up to 316 horsepower and driving dynamics are notably better.
Finally, there is the plug-in hybrid model, equipped with the same turbocharged and supercharged engine, which gets help from an electric motor, for a combined output of 400 horsepower. This version also comes with an 11.6-kWh battery pack, which provides 18 miles of the all-electric range.
All models come with 8-speed automatic transmission.

2023 Volvo XC90 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Volvo XC90 will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 51.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like BMW X5, Audi Q7, Acura MDX etc.
