Chevrolet FNR-X Concept Review

Like its Japanese rivals, US car giant GM is also planning to strengthen its presence in the electric and hybrid car segment. The company showcased a radical concept car, named Chevrolet FNR-X Concept crossover at the 2017 Shanghai auto show. It was made by the company’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center.

The Chevrolet FNR-X is a futuristic stylish crossover aimed at urban users. The aggressive look with sharp creases appears menacing as does narrow led headlamps. The aggressively styled bumper features vents. The windscreen covers almost all of the tailgate’s upper section and the tail-lamps run through boot lid.

As a matter of fact, this is the 2nd concept car from the stable of GM with FNR name. The earlier model was named FNR but it never made to the production line. The former was a sports car. Chevrolet says the car blends utility with uncompromised performance.

The cabin of Chevrolet FNR-X Concept is also stylish and somewhat futuristic looking. There are a sleek dashboard and an augmented reality-based heads-up display. The driver views footage captured by external sensors and camera through an OLED display unit.

Ambient lighting will denote the driving mode selected. The doors can be controlled remotely. The rear doors are also suicide type aka rear opening. However, the seat can be easily moved to accommodate cargo. Voice command can control various features of the car.

Amenities and Safety Features

Just like all hybrid concept cars, the Chevy FNR-X is imbued with cutting-edge amenities and safety features. The cabin has several display units for controlling infotainment and car features. The large central display sits atop the center console. A smaller screen is there at the base. A third display unit sits close to center armrest. The instrument cluster is digital.

While the details of powertrain used in the Chevy FNR-X are not clear, it has two driving modes. The V and S modes are meant to let users adapt to traffic and mode, the suspension is firmed and body elements move to aerodynamic settings.

Furthermore, it is a plug-in hybrid setup that offers ample power to cruise along city roads. The vehicle has a self-driving system which. This system is the new one and one can use it on off-road terrains. This is much like a system in the latest JLR vehicles.

The model Chevrolet FNR-X may debut in 2020 or so in selected markets- expect the industry veterans. The pricing of the car remains unknown as well.

Summing it up

The Chevrolet FNR-X Concept is an exciting crossover- beyond any doubt. The styling is edgy and macho and the cabin is utilitarian too. However, a lot of details are yet hazy. The exact output of engine and fuel economy unknown. Chevrolet has not hinted about any release date or pricing as well. However, it would be good if GM brings it to production. In that case, it will lock horns with rivals like Toyota CH-R.

    Also am curious about a G.M. electric car entry for Pike’s Peak 2019 and would like to help out if you decide to enter something. I have been having amazing results with a 2018 Volt in auto-x with better tires on it.
