SsangYong LIV-2 Concept (Rexton)

SsangYong a South Korean automaker may not be as famous as its home turf rivals like Hyundai but it has started making its presence felt in the global car market. The SsangYong LIV-2 concept was displayed by the company in the Paris Motor Show 2016.

The vehicle is intended to replace the company’s aging Rexton SUV. It comes with enticing styling, modern amenities and robust powertrain. It will be a large SUV competing with flagship rivals from stables of the US and Japanese rivals.

The SsangYong LIV-2 concept is a bold and stylish vehicle. It is the successor to the aging LIV-1 concept which was showcased way back in 2013. However, the company is now a subsidiary of India based Mahindra Motors and the company will launch it in the Indian market as Rexton SUV.

Its exterior has an athletic appearance about it. The silver skid plates and step assists add to the muscular look. The new model is reportedly lighter than the previous iteration- as per reports.

Interior and Technology

The cabin of the vehicle will be classy and it will be quite roomy too. The seats will also get plush white leather upholstery. There will be three display units in the cabin. These three units will measure a 9.2-inch display in the center console, and two 10.1-inch units in the headrests in the rear section.

We also expect smartphone support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We also must mention that all seats will get massage function. The ambient lighting is present and one will be able to modify light in few colors and dimmings. The seats are going to be large and comfortable. The cabin will also have plenty of cargo space and small item storage options. For the image that we have, the new model will comfortably accumulate four passengers. But like the current Rexton SUV, we expect that the company also offer seven passengers model.

Amenities and Safety Details

The SsangYong LIV-2 model or Rexton SUV will also get plenty of amenities and advanced safety features. There will be 9 airbags in the cabin. It will have automated braking as well as pedestrian detection capability guided by radar and sensors.

There are high beam assistance, lane change assist, blind spot detection etc. A touchscreen driven infotainment system will support both USB and Bluetooth. The car will also get some customizations in selected markets.

SsangYong LIV-2 Engine that will deliver around 200 HP

The SsangYong LIV-2 concept which will be sold as Rexton in India and some other markets will get a 2.2-L diesel engine. A new 2.0-litre GDi turbo gasoline engine is also going to be there. The output of the engine will deliver around 200 HP. As for the torque, the company said that this luxury SUV will give 420 Nm and around 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

The engines will get paired with either a 7-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed automatic transmission setup as per the updates. The car will have decent fuel economy as per the updates. Also, this SUV will be available with front-wheel drive FWD system as standard, while 4WD will be offered as an optional.

The SsangYong LIV-2 concept based Mahindra Rexton SUV will debut in late 2018. The price is still unknown.

Where it all leads to?

The new Rexton SUV is something SsangYong is betting on and same is true for its parent company Mahindra. It may be sold under different names in different countries. In Korea, it will get name G4 Rexton. It will give Mahindra scope to get an entry into premium and large SUV segment. In India, it will be definitely present with Mahindra branding. The new model SsangYong LIV-2 will lock horns with the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
