2018 Alpina XD3 Performance Diesel SUV Prototype

The Alpina is making a hotter version of BMW vehicles. Among many models that have been under construction is new generation X3 crossover. It is just a matter of time when this vehicle is coming out since spy photographers caught it during testing in Germany.

Alpina is boosting cars from German carmaker for half of a century, so there is no doubt that 2018 Alpina XD3 is going to succeed. The highlight of this model is a high-end performance in combination with the excellent driving system. Handling and traction are suffering modifications. Finally, it is not affecting mileage too much. However, more power costs more fuel, but everything is under the reasonable limit.

2018 Alpina XD3 drivetrain

Regular X3 crossover is using two types of drivetrains, and both are petrol units. On the other hand, Alpina decides to install a diesel engine for more torque. This is a 3.0-l V-6 bi-turbo unit which is capable to deliver 257 kW or 345 hp. It is 100 ponies more than BMW X3 can make with the base mill. Also, 2018 Alpina XD3 is delivering 50 horses more than 3.0-l V-6 petrol engine does in regular model. Torque level is not comparable. Diesel engine sits at 700 Nm, which is equal to 515 lb-ft. This is more than enough, even for a performance-tuned model. With it, XD3 needs less than 5 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a stop. It can also achieve 251 km/h, or 156 mph. Fuel economy is not so important for this version of SUV.

Spy shots unveil that 2018 Alpina XD3 is coming very soon. Camo is covering only front bumper. We believe there is a nameplate as we could see it earlier. Wheels are 20-inches and blue calipers are present even in this version. These are the signature of the M-Series. Also, we can see huge brakes behind wheels. Under the camouflaged front bumper are big air intakes. In it, we can see fog lights. On the back, fans can find dual exhaust tips which are a novelty to this crossover. The rest of the vehicle is pretty similar to its BMW sibling. Overall dimensions and interior are the same. Alpina is not taking away the luxurious soul of the cabin, with premium materials on seats and dashboard. Safety is also at very high level.

2018 Alpina XD3 release details

Fans all over the world have questions about the release in their country. It is sure that 2018 Alpina XD3 is coming to Europe. With ongoing testing in Germany, it is hard to imagine that domestic company could miss satisfying local fans. However, this model is not going to be available worldwide. The major question is if this vehicle is coming to Australia. There are many pros and cons. The biggest opponents are dealers, which are not so interested in diesel models. On the other hand, this market doesn’t have any performance-tuned crossover. So, in need, problems with diesel units could be put aside.

2018 Alpina XD3 verdict

With so many improvements, Alpina is getting more and more fans. The highlight is especially in transmission, which is smooth and intelligent. However, BMW is not considering adding it to standard offer because of the high cost. Not only that driving impression is better. Furthermore, 2018 Alpina XD3 is more comfortable thanks to chassis set-up. Being on 20-inch wheels give strange feeling to the driver. But, this is not the case with XD3 because of adaptive dampers. What is not so great is the price of this crossover. Cost of $75,000 is definitely not affordable. However, Alpina is offering a completely new impression of the SUV class, and whoever had a chance to drive it, knows what is it all about.
