2019 Best Full-Size SUV

Full-size SUVs play an important role in North America. Truck-based or modern crossovers, these models are popular in all 50 states thanks to things like versatility, great performance, excellent safety etc. Many manufacturers have these vehicles in their offer, so consider this class as very competitive. The next year will bring some nice novelties. Of course, don’t expect to be as turbulent as for small crossovers, but we should see numerous major updates. For example, an almost whole GM fleet should be refreshed. Manufacturers like Land Rover will offer completely new versions of their models, with hybrid powertrains or some other modifications. On the other side, several models, like Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, are pretty fresh and should carry on without more important changes.

2019 Cadillac Escalade

It is almost certain that the new generation of this famous truck will come in about two years. So, the 2019 Cadillac Escalade could be the last model year of the current version. Considering all this, it seems pretty likely that we are not going to see any bigger changes. The current model has already received few updates during its production cycle. For example, the last-year model came with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The 2019 Escalade won’t feature such intensive changes. Most likely, this update will include few new exterior colors, as well as few interior schemes. Additionally, we could see an updated infotainment system. Speaking of powertrain, the current 6.2-liter unit will most likely remain the only engine in the offer. Still, some reports suggest the introduction of new 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8.

2019 Toyota Sequoia

In accordance with its name, this SUV is among the oldest models in the segment. Introduced more than a decade ago, it seems pretty outdated. Numerous updates kept this Tundra-based SUV competitive, but a complete redesign is something that we expect to see as soon as possible. Still, it is almost certain that 2019 Toyota Sequoia won’t bring so much desired novelties. It will continue in the same way, featuring all those updated that came for the current 2018-year model. This means things like new headlights, fog lights, colors, trim reorganization etc. On the other side, powertrain remained the same. there is a Toyota’s familiar 5.6-liter V8, which delivers around 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque for this occasion.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover

The famous British manufacturer is preparing some big novelties for its flagship model. The base version of 2019 Range Rover might remain the same, but there are two completely new versions to come. The first one is a hybrid version called P400e. Just like Range Rover Sport, it will combine inline-four engine with the electric motor. The gasoline engine will be delivering around 296 horses, while the electromotor will be producing around 115. A combined output should be close to 400 horsepower. In addition, there is a 7-kWh battery, which should provide around 30 miles of all-electric range. The second novelty for the next year should be a new coupe body style. This will be a very limited production, with only 999 units available. Compared to the standard model, it will feature not only unique design but more powerful engine as well.

2019 Infiniti QX80

After the recent presentation of Monograph Concept, a new generation of this full-size SUV looks near. The current model may not be as old as Sequoia, but it is still old to be outperformed by younger competitors. Because of that, we are expecting to see new generation already next year. The 2019 Infiniti QX80 should come with plenty of novelties. Of course, the most notable will be a new design but expect a variety of other novelties as well. The new platform should be lighter, while the engine should be more efficient. However, it is still unclear will Nissan is going to introduce a completely new engine, or just to rework the current one which is good for about 400 horses. In any case, expect better driving dynamics, as well as higher level of luxury.

2019 Toyota Land Cruiser

Some may think that Toyota’s flagship SUV is outdated, but we are sure that the 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser will be capable enough to remain competitive, despite the fact that there are no changes in plans for the next year. The recent refresh was some kind of an introduction to the next generation, but also a clear indicator that we will have to wait for a completely new model for another year or two. Until then, the iconic SUV remains the same, featuring familiar design, as well as a similar list of standard features. Of course, minor tweaks are possible, but the core will remain the same. When it comes to powertrain, there is a proven 5.6-liter V8, which delivers around 381 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque.

2019 Chevrolet Tahoe

This SUV is one of those models that constantly receive updates. New standard equipment, along with some other changes, is something that we can see every year. Still, 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe could get more novelties than usual. According to some reports, we could see a mid-cycle refresh for this occasion. Considering that the current generation is present since 2014, this seems pretty likely. Still, it is still hard to say something more precise about this update. Visual tweaks, as well as equipment reorganization, is certain. On the other side, engine lineup should remain the same. Base models will feature a familiar 5.3-liter V8, while the larger, recently-introduced 6.2-liter engine should be reserved for hi-performance versions.

2019 Ford Expedition

After the recent redesign, it is pretty much clear that 2019 Ford Expedition won’t feature bigger changes. The fourth generation of this full-size SUV came in September 2017. So, don’t expect changes so soon, especially if we consider that there are some brand-new design solutions, such as all-aluminum body, borrowed from the new F-150 Series. Also, there is a completely new styling language, which follows brand’s latest design language. Another important novelty came under the hood. This model no longer offers a V8 engine. The only available unit at the moment is a highly-efficient 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, which has a max output of 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. It comes in a pair with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Still, there is a chance to see an additional engine in the offer for the next year. It could be a smaller 2.7-liter V6, with around 325 horses.

2019 Chevrolet Suburban

Just like Tahoe, the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban could also come with changes that are bigger than usual. The current generation of one of the Chevy’s most iconic nameplates is on the road since late 2013. Considering this age, next year would be perfect for a facelift. Still, there is no official information about such changes at the moment. In any case, those changes would be nice. Some new details at the front, as well as new color options and wheels design, are always welcome. Additionally, we could see changes on the inside, not just in terms of more equipment, but novelties on the dashboard as well. When it comes to powertrain, expect same engines in the offer. Base models will feature a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horses and 383 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, an optional 6.2-liter unit is good for about 420 horses.

2019 GMC Yukon

Considering its close relation to Chevy Tahoe, 2019 GMC Yukon is another model that could receive a mid-cycle update. The current version is present since 2013, so some revisions would be nice. Of course, the company will focus on visual appearance, so expect things like revised headlights, front fascia, bumper etc. Still, we are pretty sure that changes are about to come inside as well. The dashboard could receive few novelties, but there are also new color schemes to come. Finally, count on additional equipment for each trim level. A hi-grade Denali version should also come with plenty of changes. On the other side, powertrain should remain the same. There is a familiar 5.3-liter V8 EcoTec offered as standard engine, while a 6.2-liter unit is reserved for Denali trim level.

2019 Nissan Armada

This is a North American version of the legendary Patrol. Originally introduced in 2003, this SUV is currently in the second generation. After more than 12 years of production, redesign finally came in 2016. We have seen numerous changes, both mechanical and those of aesthetic nature. Besides the more attractive look, new generation also has more power, around 390 horses. Considering such long production cycle of the original, many experts expect no bigger changes for the 2019 Nissan Armada. Still, some minor tweaks are quite possible. People always love to see things like new exterior colors, new wheels design, some equipment rearrangement etc. Some of these novelties will come for sure. On the other side, mechanical aspect of the SUV definitely remains the same.

2019 Lincoln Navigator

After all those significant changes that we’ve seen last year, it is pretty much certain that the 2019 Lincoln Navigator will probably be nothing more than a carryover model. To remind you, a brand-new fourth generation of the legendary SUV came last September. There are plenty of new design solutions and technologies on this model. It uses the same platform as new F-150 Series. This means a massive use of lightweight materials such as HSS and aluminum. Of course, there is a completely new styling, as well new engine. This model has dropped a large V8 engine in favor of the far more advanced 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost unit. The amount of power that this engine produces is really impressive. A max output goes around 450 horses and 510 pound-feet of torque. There is also a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

2019 Dodge Durango

Compared to models from above, this one is a little bit smaller. Still, it is a highly-capable machine. In times when the most of manufacturers are trying to cut fuel consumption, emissions and similar things, 2019 Dodge Durango will continue with two proven but thirsty V8 units. Of course, base models use a smaller 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar unit with 260 horses. Still, the real deal comes with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, which delivers around 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a hi-performance SRT version, which features a 6.4-liter with 475 horses and 470 pound-feet of torque. Unfortunately, this model is not in FCA’s future plans, so 2019 Dodge Durango could easily be the last model year.

2019 Honda Pilot

This is the smallest SUV on our list. It is actually a mid-size SUV, but its excellent use of space makes it roomier than most of others models in the class. In some aspects, it could even compete with some of the models above. The current generation is present since 2016. For the next year, there is one big novelty to come. It looks like we are about to see a hybrid version of this excellent crossover. Most likely, 2019 Honda Pilot will use the same hybrid powertrain as the legendary sedan Honda Accord.

2019 Honda Pilot

This practically means a 2.0-liter gasoline engine in a combination with a high-output electric motor. Exact numbers are yet to come, but we are sure that the new version will feature amazing fuel economy, just like it is the case with the iconic sedan, which can easily return more than 50 miles per gallon.
